My last try to help save this game

It has gotten to a point that I feel giving feedback/ideas is a waste of my time. So this is the last hurrah.

These are the things I feel are REQUIRED to help save WoW from its downward spiral:

Non-PvP/PvE content must be added to give players something to do other than what they have been doing for 15+ years. Examples:

  • Player housing: Gives players creative freedom to make something their own, reasons to do content by having housing drops scattered through the various content in the game, and will benefit from the 15+ years of 3D assets that have already been made for the game.
  • Treasure hunting: A concept started in WoD, and carried on through the expansions, should be fleshed out and brought to the whole world. Give players a “Treasure compass” that guides them to the start of a bread crumb trail of hints and clues to find an instanced random spawn chest. Stick housing, toys, cosmetics, and other fun stuff into the chests.
  • Bring back pet battle playthroughs by making the exp relevant again like it was in MoP so people can do their “Pokemon trainer” playthroughs like they did before.
  • Musical instruments: A concept shown to work in FFXIV, add a class that uses instruments to buff/heal allies and rip opponents ears apart. Allow people to compose their own rifs and songs with a built in song sheet they can create.
  • Profession overhaul 2.0: Make all gather nodes instanced to a player. (Lets be real, competing against bots/gold farmers for resources is just plain annoying.) Revamp all crafting from all expansions into one normalized system that you can simply add on too, rather than make everything from previous expansions worthless. Make nodes/resources from old expacs matter again by putting them into the newly refreshed recipes. Allot of crafting can be added by player housing.
  • Armor dye: Get with the times and set up the UV materials to allow for armor dying. PvP colors and raid colors be damned. Let players have fun. Scatter dyes throughout the content. Give some glow effects for particularly hard challenges/achievements.

PvE/Class changes are REQUIRED to keep the game alive, because people are tired after 15 years of the same thing. Examples:

  • Make ALL pve content from the game playable and relevant again. You have the base systems in the game for it to work already. (Time walking). Follow FFXIV’s lead, and make ALL content from the game available in random que for a daily reward. Same with raids. Make a daily random que raid. Make them give a currency that can be used on a shop that sells things everyone could want, from player housing items, to catch up gear, to entry level pvp gear, to toys, cosmetics etc.
  • (This one is going to be controversial. But I feel its needed to make the core gameplay loop of combat fun again. Debate it in the comments.) Classless WoW: Playing a warrior/mage for 15+ years has gotten stale. Let players have a pool of talent points that they can spend on ANY ability/stat of ANY of the classes, unrestricted, to make their own hodge-podge class to play. Make it so that players could still more or less play any traditional class style by just picking a pre-made point selection that gives them all the spells/abilities of traditional class. But let those that are bored make something new! (This is the biggest one for me personally to add life back into the game.)
  • Shift raid/dungeon focus from boring mechanic piles/dps race fights to fast paced dodging that more modern mmo’s have adopted. Allow infinite battle rezes, but make the mana cost high for healers. If the group wipes, let everyone rez right infront of the boss room. (This is coming from an off and on mythic level raid leader.)

Random changes:

  • Combine horde and alliance player pools: (Lets face it, wows player base has gotten dangerously low, and this is the best shot to stem the wound.) Make a new “Flag mode” That flags you as “Neutral”, allowing you to essentially go anywhere without faction restrictions. Do any quest and talk with any npc, regardless of faction. Guilds, trade chat, auction houses, etc., all would be cross faction now.
  • Remove any and ALL FOMO. There is nothing that makes me more deflated feeling as a collectionist than seeing stuff I can NEVER get. For me personally, it makes the concept of collecting worthless, because I will never have the ability to get everything. So why even bother? Bring back old PvP unique sets and lock them behind the seasons current rating. Old mounts and discontinues need brought back.

Something I missed or don’t agree with? Lets talk it over in the comments!

Treasure hunting could be an expansion of the archeology system, or its own minigame. I’d be down for that! :upside_down_face:

Player housing, create your own custom class from pre-existing classes, musical instruments, treasure hunting, profession consolidation from all expansions, Time walking dailys for raids/dungeons for ALL expansions at same time, and raid/dungeon re-focusing of boss mechanics.

My overall favorites in the OP:

And they could take after ESO’s model where anyone can buy a specific property to make their own as the properties are instanced. FFXIV’s housing is fine i suppose but the lottery part to it can be a lil annoying tbh. Just provide the gold and whatever prereq to unlock the property like ESO does and boom, all yours, and it spans across all your characters so you don’t have to buy the same property multiple times.

100% this, if not giving us Bard class, instruments would be nice. i love playing a lil tune on FFXIV while doing queues and it’s fun listening to people forming in-game bands to play music on there.

So much this, i have some good transmogs that would be great if i could make em match 100%

Going back to FFXIV, this would be a great change, and also toss in all professions as well.

Yep. As always, FOMO is bad policy. i have yet to see a legit argument in favor of it, because there is none.

Also throw in Dance Studio.

Dance studio would be… To prone to Sexual content incidents. As much as I would like to make my own custom animations for the game, its too prone to abuse.

Player Housing I am all for.

Treasure Hunting - the rewards would be lame or great depending on what you want from the game.

Pet Battles - I don’t care about, I don’t feel like many other people care about it either. I have never been in any ones discord and heard people saying, man I need to go do some pet battles.

Musical Instruments - No just no. If you make them buff / support allies they will need to be one in every raid.

Profession Overhaul - what would you purpose? At some point crafted gear has to become trivial. I would like more in depth crafting, but again at some point some items become useless.

Armor Dye - Sure.

Playable content - Im good with this.

Classless WOW - no, its a great idea but in a world where top dps is most desired you would end up with everyone rolling the same specs because at the end of the day DPS is most important. Look and elder scrolls, it was a mess.

Raid / Dungeon focus - The only way to change this is to add short enrage timers, which will cripple the current player base. I hate how FFXIV is more or less one big dps race. And honestly, I think that is a raid has down the mechanics then that raid should be able to down said encounter without having to worry about dps. Enrage timers just effectively stop people who don’t have a perfect rotation from downing content. I was a raid leader as well.

Combine horde and alliance - Sure but I would like to see a full expansion to why this happened.

Your last point Sure.

Pet battles: Keep in mind, that just because YOU don’t like/care about them. And the raiders/raiding guild you hang around in doesn’t care about them, doesn’t mean other people don’t like them.

Musical instruments: Making a bard class in a classless system would be interesting, but kind of mute. It would more or less be stand alone instruments for people to use/play in their free time.

Profession overhaul: Would focus more on useable stuff OUTSIDE of gear for pve/pvp. More toys, housing items, components for complex crafts like mounts, quality of life items, etc. The less focus on gear, the better.

Classless wow: Certain players will ALWAYS pick the highest dps flavor of the month. There is no avoiding it. But saying no because, “All players will pick the same thing!” is just straight wrong. Otherwise, you would only ever see players running around as warrior tanks, what ever the top dps is, and healer. But here we are, with everyone playing every class because… who gives a care? People play to have fun. Only the top tier sweats care about dps parsing. The other 95%? Just wana have fun. (But classeless is more about making re-playability and customization of play style more than anything.)

Raid/dungeon boss mechanics: You have this backwards. Currently, wow has too short of enrage timers/mechanics. Meaning that gear/dps checks are a CONSTANT. Pretty much every last boss in the current raid has a hard set time to kill before wipe. This is a dated and defunct concept in the eyes of modern mmo landscapes. FFXIV raids are MUCH more lenient on time given. But much more punishing in dodging. Right now, wow has allot of… annoying moving. But not full scale dodge phases. (This topic is too thick to really cover in a reply.)

OP, the game isn’t dying, and has no need of being saved.

But also, the game is dying, and cross faction play will save the game.

Is that worth the content drought it would force to exist?

Tazavesh?

Again, is this worth the content drought it would force to happen?

What would this accomplish aside from throwing off balance with all the old gear that’s suddenly available again?

And people complain that balance is bad now.

This is a meaningless word salad.

Kind of already happening, and the only good idea in this post.

With how much you talk about FFXIV, maybe you should just play FFXIV, since you clearly want to be playing a game that is not WoW.

Sounds like you should just play FF14 instead.

So I don’t raid, and just recently joined a guild that does. Again, i have never heard anyone so nah man I can’t do that with you right now, i’m out in the world doing pet battles.

I have no desire to be able to play non beneficial music, but sure add it.

Currently if not for gear there would be no use with pretty much any profession. Lets face it toys are cool, but most of them are annoying to me. Housing isn’t in the game. Quality of life items, sure but there are only so many of those that I could think of that I would want.

I think your numbers are really skewed. I think you would find that 95% of people want to pull the top DPS for their class. If there were no classes, just talent points people would all pick the highest possible dps class, tanks would end up all going to the highest dps possible tank so on an so forth. Need proof look at raider IO, almost all of the top 20 players have the same identical spec. While I do agree people want to have fun, I don’t think many people would find not being invited to something because they want to have fun.

No, FFXIV has way shorter enrage times. I think you may be talking from a biased stand point, but honestly all MMO’s on the market have the raid encounters largely scaled the same, dodge this, interrupt that, dps this, etc. There isn’t a way to reinvent the raid. The other thing you failed to mention about FFXIV is that all of the fights are % health based scripts, they get boring. I don’t know man, the raiding in while i still in my opinion the best out there.

Ion said they are working on it in the background but they won’t sacrifice a raid tier to focus on it, so it’s going to just be a slow burn in the background til it’s almost ready.

Sounds a lot like Archeology, something few people ever used, causing them to pretty much abandon it

Too gimmicky.

They can’t do armor dyes with the current game engine. Every color swap is an entirely separate item they have to build. FF14 has a much newer game engine that supports dyes, but WoW just can’t do that.

Some FOMO is good as it works as motivation for players to play now as opposed to waiting until later when something is easier.

player housing will likely never happen. way too much time investment for something that wow’s engine really doesn’t support.
treasure hunting:a neat concept in theory but falls apart in practice because after the initial excitement you will have guides galore on how to find all the hidden treasures. plus all the manhours it would require to put into implementing a feature that not many would use.
musical instruments:how do you make a bard type class without it ending up being some sort of required buff/support class in raids?
profession overhaul: this would bethe height of tedium to require players to repeatedly go back to all the different expansions just to gather crafting materials for current recipes and doesn’t really make sense when the whole point is to get players in the current expansion. the other features i dont have issue with.
armor dye: blizzard has stated multiple times this will never happen due to engine limitations. The engine is simply NOT CAPABLE of rendering armor this way due to how armor is shown in game.
timewalking for all dungeons/raids:1. this would cause the games data requirement to go through the roof. (you think 100+gb is bad? try 200-300gb since the game has to store a instance of each dungeon leveled up with all the accompying gear.)
2. unless this is optional it would completely kill transmog collecting scene for old raids and a good chunk of players would likely just quit.
classless wow is again something that will just never happen. the game would have to be completely rebuilt from the ground up to support this. essentially you just want a wow 2 with this change.
3. making the action fast paced twitch type mechanics basically puts a giant wall in front of raiding and dungeon content for disabled/handicapped people.

No they aren’t lol. Most WoW enrages are health% based and generally last until either the raid or the boss dies, and depending on the group, can take a decent chunk of time. FF14 enrages are usually on a strict timer that forces you to burn as hard as you can within a short timer or wipe.

Agreed, especially for completionism. Still really annoyed that I was too late to get Veilstrider because of Blizzard’s terrible arbitrary decision to make it time-limited with no notice, despite the massive time-gating included in the achievement…

I completed that content, I should get the reward I was expecting.

But let’s be honest, Blizzard doesn’t care lol. /sadge

WOW doesnt need to become Final Fantasy.
Blizz just needs to leave California and hire a new lead DEV and replace some of the current devs. We need new fresh ideas not final fantasy
