My greatest hope for a World Revamp

Is that the world shows the factions’ developments and accomplishments, rather than just breaking stuff for shock value.

Cataclysm and BFA destroyed iconic areas and zones primarily for shock value. This franchise has been going on for about 30 years. People have literally grown up in this universe, and it’d be nice to finally have some of their investment recognized by allowing the races and factions to progress and achieve long-held goals.

I think most of us are in agreement here. We want to see things like Human resettlement of Stromgard and Forsaken resettlement of Lordaeron. We want to see races utilize older, but thematically appropriate assets (like Forsaken obtaining necropoli.)

We want the end of racial homogenization (like the Alliance being subjects of a human leader and everyone wearing Stormwind’s armor.) Ideally, each race has their own capital or territory. Each race has its own niche in magic, technology, society, etc. Each race has a leader with redeeming qualities who’s a strong representative their race’s primary identity.

At some point, Blizzard is going to have to bring us out of the Cataclysm era into a new leveling experience. Cataclysm’s leveling is problematic because it is built around characters who are no longer with us and events long resolved. Nobody looks at the dam in Loch Modan and is humbled in awe. And it’s hard for new players to understand why there are 3 rotating Warchiefs.

Some rumors say next expansion is going to be that next step. And I just hope we see the races presented in a position of strength, rather than massive pockets of void gunk flung all over Eversong Woods or whatever’s being planned.

Wholeheartedly agree with everything you just said. This is the right philosophy for a world revamp. And actually, as time passes, a purely faction lore, class lore, racial lore-focused world revamp is becoming less of simply a common request and more of an actual compelling need, because the setting is badly damaged right now, and must be handled with care, caution, dedication, love and most of all, lore literacy.

I guess that’s the one fear for the sort of revamp we look set to be getting: a sequential approach to zone updates and the further relaxing of faction restrictions all but guarantees the remade world will be FFA. My monkey’s paw furls just thinking about what that might look like.

Entirely correct. Well, mostly. I remain firmly anti-Forsaken-Necropolis.

The Heritage quests have been mostly underwhelming in their role as these singular racial setpieces, but I think most of them are actually golden examples of what old-world revamp quest should look like.

This may be a bit over-ambitious, but I’d also love if they’d revisit the actual geography a bit. Kalimdor and EK are pretty badly designed from a mapmaker’s standpoint - most zones are just big rectangles with a straight, thin line of mountains on each side. That made a certain amount of sense in the olden days but it’s unforgivably lazy today.

My dream is for the mountains to be reshaped more like the mountains on Kul Tiras - they’re still clearly zone borders, but they can be climbed and crossed, and there can be some exploration content (easter eggs, gathering nodes, generic treasure chests/etc) there that gives a non-mandatory reward to players who want to scramble up.

Flying over Kalimdor and EK, there is plenty of empty space on the existing border mountains that could be rehabilitated in a revamp. I’d love to see what the designers can do with it.

…I think I can understand shock value if it’s to help make the former enemies challenging or tough. Look back at the Scarlet Crusade and you’ll see how puny they were. :pinching_hand::robot:

One of my hopes is that the Stonemaul clan is shown to have retaken their old home and the setting stage of them becoming playable.

I will welcome with open arms a new version of Kalimdor where NE settlements arent in a perpetual siege and fire.

I would also like to see all the races and classes that have joined since Cataclysm get attention in the revamp. Even if the added races only get one town themed around them.
Alliance Pandaren helping out with growing crops in Westfall.
Horde Pandaren have a brewery in the Barrens, have it be called The Empty Keg and have Chen show up.
Lightforged and Mag’har being the main forces in the Blasted Lands.
Kul Tirans rebuild Menithil Harbour.

A new Shattrath for the draenei on Azuremyst Isle. And some villages around. In the case of Kalimdor I want the connection via train road that they were going to use in WOD as one of the features and abandoned without implementing it. I want it to link all maps where the Horde has a presence or trades with neutral races.

I want a conflict between primals and breakers in the Barrens. May the arakkoas settle in the region too. Furthermore I wish the orc clans to have their own cities and territories. With preference for territories that are similar to their originals on Draenor.

It would be even cooler if Blackrock could build a new Blackrock Foundry that takes resources from different maps. Showing that the Horde is once again militarily powerful.

The rest I don’t care much because I only play as an orc or draenei. But I hope they get what they want.

I’d like to see Durotar actually have trees again, which it had pre-Daelin clearcut, and by all logic they should have been at least coming back by Cata. There’s no way with a faction full of Shaman, including the MOST POWERFUL one, the zone should still be flooded. Same goes for a lot of zones that were damaged in Cata, honestly, particularly the night elf zones, but also Loch Modan and Westfall.

Another thing a world revamp should really fix is the weird… patchwork of time passage in Cata zones. Elwynn, for example, gave a bunch of new quests and threats to Northshire Abbey, bringing it up to a new time period from Cata… but then the rest of Elwynn is essentially identical as Classic, with only a few small quest changes (to Hogger) present, and some changes to the rewards.

Also would be really nice for the zones whose entire arcs and chains are now outdated memes or pop culture references to be changed. Westfall is one of the most potentially unique zones and settings in the game, the state it’s been in for over a decade now is sad.

I feel that.

I was so stoked for the Zandalari Empire, only for it to be turned into effectively one pyramid and some outlying villages.

It’s also time the Mag’har had their own quarter of Orgrimmar, and we got some real Horde docks/airship station.

Warchief’s Room shouldn’t be easily accessible to players. One must talk to an NPC that does behind the scene switch the Warchief a player wants to see

It’s been strange the Draenor clans weren’t involved with the former clans on Azeroth and Outland.

Would be neat to see New Kargath stand out for the Shattered Hand Clan. :mechanical_arm::robot:

I new Auchendoun where Draenei have resumed the creation of protrctors amd vigilants. Because the draenei version of a Warhammer Dreadnaught is too cool to leave in the past.

Forget the man’ari I want to play one of those.

At least the head of a Vigilant should work as a helmet. :wrench::robot:

If they ever do revamp the world I’d love to see them implement the feel of a ‘living’ environment like they have in recent expansions.

Cities like Dazar’alor, Kul Tiras and Valdrakken feel very bustling and engaging even if you’re the only one in them. Small details really make the environment for me.

I’d also love to see Allied races implemented in old zones to make them feel more ingrained in their respective factions. BfA had some, but it felt like they really tapered off on including them since then.

I would also like to see the new Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor be on entirely new servers. The old cataclysm servers would still exist. This would open up way more storytelling if they didn’t have to worry about tying the old dungeons and raids into the story. They could have new dungeons and raids in Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms.

World revamp/redesigned. Size of world increase. Some of the current zones are tiny compared to dragonflight zones.

Factions split up more, they have grown too large. Make them 4 factions like warcraft3

Double the amount of playable races. Really just go ham and letting players be any race in wow. For the ones that dont belong to a particular faction, just make them mercenaries and can take quests from any faction.

Not as much of an issue when you can level a ton through a single expansion.
The bigger problem is that Chromie time isn’t really good at fully explaining the history.

My major thing is I don’t expect Blizzard to do a new 1 through (x) leveling update. It would take a ton of time and remove a lot of resources from the part of the game where the majority of the playerbase will be spending their time (the Cata issue).
If they do a world update it will have to have use for endgame, so it would need some kind of world quest/faction story system like what we have with Dragonflight.
