My graphics card is out of date and not on the minimum requirement list

With the the release of shadowlands pre patch I got the notification that my graphics card is out of date and I checked blizzards list and my card isn’t on it. My current card is a Geforce GT 740. In addition, my cpu is hitting close to 90% sometimes when I play wow. So my main question is if I upgrade my cpu first will I not be able to play wow due to the outdated gpu or will it still work with lower graphic quality.
Thank you

What’s your current CPU? You’ll probably need an entirely new build but that can be done for pretty cheap.

If your budget is low, you could always start off with something like a Ryzen 3 3200g/5 3400g for a while until you could afford a decent gpu. Then if all you’re doing is playing WoW, those CPUs will still be suitable.

If you can play WoW now with that card, you’ll still be able to play after upgrading your CPU; upgrading your CPU won’t make your GPU any worse than it already is. But I can’t say for sure what will happen when you go to Shadowlands. If they’ve increased the graphical complexity beyond what’s currently in Kul Tiras/Zandalar, it could be that extra work would push your GPU beyond it’s limits even with a CPU upgrade. So I guess it would be more accurate to say that you’ll be able to continue playing the content you’re currently playing.

In any case I suspect you won’t see much benefit from upgrading just your CPU, you’re going to have to replace both to get any real improvement.

Hi guys. What about my Rig? you guys think it can handle Shadowlands?

Geforce GTX 1060 3gb
Intel Core I7-3770 3.40ghz
16gb RAM
Windows 10 64bit

My computer is 7 years old so it is kinda old. My GPU 3 years old and just put in a new coolermaster hyper 212 cpu fan since my cpu thermal paste dried up and decided to not only replace the paste but the stock fan to prevent overheating.

My specs are as follows:

  • I have a Gateway GM5478
  • Processor: Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU (2.40Ghz, 4Cores)
  • And my motherboard is Intel/Gateway DG33SXG2

This was a hand me down from my brother which he only upgraded the power source and ram ;(

Yeah, you’re gonna want a full system build. Nothing from there save storage media is usable in a new system and a new graphics card won’t help.

Note the minimum system requirements for shadowlands is an i5-3450 which is three generations better than what you have

What’s your budget?

My budget is like 400-600 max mainly due to covid I can’t be dropping stacks on a cpu to play wow lol.

Hokushin dropped some $500 builds on this forum along with videos you can check out. You can also try logical increments WoW build (slightly dated but still good for ideas)
