So how bad will it be? I already have a SSD and my video card is the minimum (but easy to replace) but do I really have to buy a new pc because my processor is older?
If it works now it probably will work in SL - it’s the same family just less cores.
I would wait and see - I don’t think there would be TOO much of a difference.
All that said, the FX-6300 (or the 8300 for that matter) aren’t really amazing performers and even if the FX-6300 DOES work, it won’t be that enjoyable and you will definitely benefit from an upgrade.
You could always download the PTR and hop on to see how your computer performs
Thanks for this. I actually was able to log into the beta for a bit (not telling how) and with my gfx settings on 7 and with FFXA and AA on pretty low I think, I was pulling about 50 fps with no stutters or lag in open world. As long as nothing major happens I think I will be ok.
Well I decided to upgrade my PC because the wife said I was a good boy this year. Ended up with Ryzen 7 3700x, AMD 5700 XT, 16 gigs of ram at like 3200 MHZ? No way would I be able to afford new stuff as it came out, but this will handle most of what I play. Going to eyeball some monitors and see how that’s going to work out I hear 144 refresh is pretty nice!
5700xt is a SOLID card.
Think on it this way, the 5700xt isn’t even in the same price category as any of the new cards, so release of the new cards, discounts on 5700xt notwithstanding, isn’t going to make your 5700xt feel terrible since they weren’t in your price range anyway.
5700xt in WoW is also competent at 4k.
3700x is also a very strong cpu and you will enjoy it for many years.
Thanks! This made me feel better about my upgrade lol. Also, thanks for being so active and helpful on these forums! I read through a lot of posts looking for ideas and comparing different peripherals, and you and a few others really do the work to help here. I appreciate you guys (and gals) efforts.
4k? would I want 60hz or go to the 144hz? 144 makes my head spin when I look at the price though lol
You can get whatever you want, but saying that the 5700xt can even do wow at 4k/60 or better.
I play on 1440p/144
FX 6300 user here. I was able to access the PTR just fine, unless your talking about the shadowlands zone itself.
I think you can just buy another motherboard, swap out the old out and plop the new CPU (and it’s cooler) on.
If any tech experts here know if this is possible to do, let us both know, because my computer isn’t the spring chicken it used to be back in 2016.
new AMD motherboards use the AM4 socket, the FX6300 is not compatible with AM4 motherboards as it’s an AM3+ CPU. That said the FX6300 will meet the bare minimum requirement for SL as it offers similar performance to the FX 8300 in gaming. Since you have access to the PTR then you can judge for yourself how well it handles SL.
dude already upgraded to a 3700x and loves it
replying to Baridorielor
he’ll need DDR4 too
PTR/beta is different then normal servers as in the amount of players running around. So while playing in PTR/beta is fine you take a performance hit on live servers.
At least that’s the way it’s always felt like for me. Not enough to need a new PC but it is noticable hit.
I’ve always felt PTR has performed generally much worse than live.
I’ve seen it go either way due to lack of players or lack of optimization. If it’s a slideshow on the PTR, live realms won’t make it any better though.
Hi there, i own a fx 6350 @3.9mhz with 16gb ram 1866mhz,a ssd and a gtx 1050ti.
i run wow SL in 1080p at 7 with some custom changes at 60 fps always. Even in raids it goes from 30-60, i dont stream nor use any other background program, so yeah it runs pretty well. If you are building a new pc dont go for FX nor gtx1050 but if you already own this, then yes you can run smoothly.
P.D: my monitor is an LG 24" Curve
I dont see the point in necro’ing this thread. Why did you do it?
