Youâre right, itâs not.
I would argue that both are about equal, complexity wise-- they just require different skillsets.
Source: I play both WoW and shooters a LOT.
Ok
you laugh but there was some starcraft commentator/player that recently died that benched like 500lb LOL
This fish is not anywhere near as capable of flight as birds or insects. I would imagine that swimming through the water is extremely difficult and require a high degree of strength, but itâs literally impossible to call yourself âflyingâ as a fish. The power to swim and maneuver through the current is not in anyway comparable to some of the speed and agility of birds and insect Flyers
Yeah I thought about that diss (is âdissâ still a âthingâ? Are there still "thing"s? as a boomer, I have to be so careful using the young people words) a few posts up, implying boomers canât even play WoW casually because the last video game they played was pong and they donât have the reflexes.
We boomers just have such humongous stores of information in our heads, that our action potentials have to traverse much vaster distances than yours do, wee ones, in order for the neurons to fire.
donât mess with us
You dont know what youre talking about. You dont compare a FPS-like RPG to RTS.
On StarCraft, you control/manage 200 units all over the map. High APM (Actions Per Minute) is required to correctly manage your 200 units all over the map. Whereas on WoW, you control only ONE unit which is your toon. You dont need a very High APM to play WoW.
However, WoW requires your fast reflexes when you delve to the hardest difficulty content of the game. You need to do your rotation and fight mechanics while avoiding the poops being thrown at you. WoWâs Esports and World First are more of a team game⊠a team effort⊠need coordination from your team mates⊠unlike on StarCraft is solely for 1 player managing everything⊠itâs not 5vs5 like on Mythic+/Arena or 20vs20 race to kill Raid Bosses. I know StarCraft has Multiplayer option but their Multiplayer contests is not as popular as their 1vs1 contest.
you need fast reflexes in mythic raiding, but elite RTS play is basically shooting NBA jumpers under pressure⊠RTS play is basically chess
Yeah, as I indicated on my above post, on RTS, you control all the units (200 units on StarCraft). On WoW , how would it become a Chess if you control only 1 unit which is your toon? Thatâs why WoW needs team coordination with your fellow players.
Iâm not doubting the skills involved in high level raiding, Iâm just saying that MMOs are not inherently as much about skill as other genres.
I believe on awesome Serralâs Zerg skills. But I strongly believe he would lose when he is on a game that involves Team effort. But he wont play Team games as his Solo reflexes and fast fingers is better for RTS games. I saw him played on Age of Empires 4⊠he was awesome but he didnt play long becoz thereâs large amount of money on StarCraft2.
Yeah, but nearly everybody can be elite at WoW with enough information and practice. Not everybody can be elite at an FPS no matter how much they practice. Neither is horribly complex though, where RTS and MOBA games require much more active decision making with a lot of complex information.
MMOs are a very easy genre of game to be good at. Itâs more about tolerating the grind and being willing to invest the time acquiring a large raid force that works well together. Like somebody said earlier, the hardest part of raiding is finding other people that also just donât suck, and finding that many people that fit your play time may be very difficult for people with a rotating and busy schedule. It doesnât necessarily sound hard in theory, butâŠ
My unpopular opinion is that gold and pink on dks should never be a thing.
I disagree, but this is a whole other argument about the nature of skill. If you play starcraft or whatever with extreme intensity for 10 hours a day for a decade you will probably be an elite player.
StarCraft I agree, but I think FPS top level play requires a certain level of intangible skill. I think a lot of people just donât have brains that talk to their eyes and hands and react fast enough to put it all together. Could that be improved? Yeah probably, but I donât know for sure. My opinion on how it breaks down goes like this.
Complex:
RTS
MOBA
Difficult:
FPS
Easiest of both worlds:
WoW
And ?
Also, lol @ âcyberâ athlete. Get in shape, go out for a run.
I canât say I agree with Gladwell. I know youâve met people in your life that sound like theyâre struggling to just keep up with very basic information in a conversation and you question how they navigate adulthood. Imagine giving one of those people 10k hours playing Valorant and I still refuse to believe they would be a star.
Again, I could be wrong, but thatâs a theory and something thatâs logically impossible for that guy to declare as a fact.
10,000 hours to master, not be the worldâs best⊠and it has to be real genuine effort to get better, not just showing up to calculus class and playing games on your calculator
If youâre differentiating âmasteringâ and âbeing a professionalâ then why are you bringing it up in this discussion, exactly?
