My extremely unpopular wow opinion

The skill ceiling for this game is not anywhere near what it is for things like RTS or FPS games. I would imagine that world first boss kills are extremely difficult and require a large amount of dedication, but it is literally impossible to call yourself a true cyber athlete or whatever in wow. The skill required to follow a rotation and do mechanics is not in any way comparable to some of the elite fast twitch cyber athletes and rts micromanagers.

So you are saying you are bad at this game?

Seems like he’s saying that the gap in skill between the worst and best players is mostly closed simply by information. Which is true. There is a certain level of coordination and reaction speed that is required to be at the top but it’s really mostly about knowing what you’re supposed to do and when you’re supposed to do it.

Boomers that haven’t played a game since pong could get into WoW but they probably aren’t going to do anything but go 0-12 in CoD.

im saying look up the parses of very good wow players and world first players, I’m sure they are only marginally worse

a very good starcraft player will NEVER beat an elite one
you will NEVER beat michael jordan 1v1 unless you are a literal NBA player (and no amateur has in thousands of tries)
you might get lucky against an elite FPS player, but the skill gap will be very obvious

I’ve played a game with an extremely high skill ceiling back in the day (tribes 1), and wow is just not comparable due to the nature of the game. I consider the possibility I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Landing a fade away MA in Tribes was one of the sweetest feels in my gaming memories.

Cyber athlete isnt a thing. A bunch of nerds that have never done anything athoetic in their lives started saying it to feel better about being nerds.

yes and on a 56k modem with a 200 ping it was even better than doing the same thing today on high speed internet

go try to play an elite starcraft player even after training for a few months, you will lose

(i could maybe be wrong about this honestly, but everything I know about elite starcraft gameplay is that it is basically chess)

You are comparing pvp side of RTS and FPS games (esports) to the PvE side of wow… Id say a more equal comparison would be AWC. it that scenario, those players have a very similar skill ceiling. In fact, Id say wow pvp requires much more from a player than any of the MOBAs out there.

It doesnt matter what game they play or for how many days a day. They are still not an athlete

wow pvp actually has a decent skill ceiling, but it is still not comparable to MOBA/FPS/RTS/etc

you are acting like i invented the term lol

Maybe not FPS’s like starcraft, but mobas, sure, and fps are a different skill set and isn’t apples to apples

The hardest part of mythic raiding is finding 24 other people who dont suck. Infinitely harder than CSGO or SC2

that is not skill ceiling though, I’m talking about the difference between very good wow play and elite wow play

So then the reason you have no meaningful achievements is what then?

The guy you lost to still isnt an athlete… he is good at video games. Lets call him an ā€œElite Gamerā€ if we want to make him feel accomplished.

if you can get ā€œmeaningfulā€ achievements entirely solo in this game without going insane in 2023 more power to you, I guess you are just a better man than me if you can pull that off

i didn’t invent the term bro LOL

Fair enough! Dont let me catch you tossing it around though… you are guilty by association.

I thought these days sports included everything online as well. Words get changed so much they quickly lose their original meaning. Being good at a game and being the best is a huge difference. Most of us are just playing wow to have some fun and that’s all it will ever be.

i agree completely except the cyber athlete. i have no idea what that is but i can guess. doesn’t exist imho. the diff between Ć©lite and good in wow is very small. so i agree with that.
pvp the gap is wider but very small.

mmorpgs have always been about endurance and pain/frustration tolerance… I would imagine going for a world first would be a soul draining experience.
