My extremely unpopular wow opinion

“appropriated”

lmao.

Correct, though competition is an important part of “sport” and these semantic arguments have been held by every braindead American dudebro for the last 20 years at least, specifically because they hate change.

Unfortunately, you’re incorrect (about what constitutes a sport) by nearly any standard that doesn’t rely on trying to “gotcha” with shaky definitions from Merriam-Webster or Oxford, despite how a word is actively being used.

Who cares?

What a pathetic attempt at insulting people that understand the difference between a sport and a competition.

I’m an old family man and an air traffic controller and have played MMOs extensively at the top end for almost 20 years. I’m not some meathead moron that hates change and that’s why I think calling video games a sport is stupid. It’s stupid because it’s wrong.

Fortunately for people like you, who determine whether they are right based on whether they are in the majority, language gets changed to adapt to the inadequate once enough of them start using words incorrectly. Look no further than words such as resiliency and literally for a couple examples.

I guess if you want to declare victory by convincing enough stupid people of something and then being with the stupid people in a majority group then enjoy your “sports”.

try raiding without DBM and weak auras. Stuff like that considered cheating in FFXIV, smh

They don’t understand the difference, as evidenced by the two bozos refusing to acknowledge two very well known sports that in recent years made it through to the Olympic Committee, after much pushback from many (but not all) European countries. These countries caused more fuss over Chess and Bridge than they did over the term eSport/E-sport, though. That’s primarily an American hangup.

I do enjoy them. I have no problem including a variety of things with the term, especially when any sane minded person can understand what’s being conveyed with “sports” when the word is used for Chess, Video Games, Card Games, Billiards, what have you. Maturity’s a hell of a drug.

I don’t use weak auras and which mechanics in the raid do you think would be difficult without DBM? It would be a slight adjustment period, but I can’t think of any that would be that punishing as the game offers a lot of visual and audible cues without having to watch detriments.

Is your brain not physically transmitting the inputs for the game? Are you not engaging your physical reflexes with your arms and fingers? Studies have shown gaming burns an AVERAGE of 200 calories an hour, and most of those stats are going to be coming from casual and non-competitive gaming content which waters it down significantly. 200 calories an hour is the low end of how much a golfer at the driving range burns an hour (golfers burn more at a course, but the majority of that comes from having to walk around and carry their clubs around the holes). In a high intensity competitive environment like a tourney (or in WoWs case a World First Prog, high rated pvp, etc.) I’m willing to bet that number can go up quite a bit higher. These types of content are legitimately physically exerting, anyone that does or has tried any kind of competitive gaming content (be it videogames, or even Chess tournaments) can attest to how exhausting it can get. If you’ve ever taken the time to notice, there are very very few legit competitive gamers out there that are unhealthy southpark WoW tier landwhales

Because it isn’t a RTS or FPS.

so the rest of your raid carrying you, got it.

You can’t convince people about the physical nature of more mental sports if they won’t even accept Chess and Bridge as a sport despite the Olympic Committee recognizing their federations, man. The effort’s solid, but they are just going to laugh and say no with zero substance.

It’s like you didn’t read what I said at all. Congratulations on manipulating enough stupid people that you can convince some people to call video games a sport (DEFINITELY still not a majority though). Dictionary definitions aren’t “shaky” or a “gotcha”, but you go on pretending they are because you want to feel like an athlete lol.

Sounds like a bunch of nerds that couldn’t cut it back in school so they decided to call themselves athletes at something they were good at. Maybe next we can convince people playing DnD is an e-sport and that rolling dice is physically demanding. :joy:

You’re right, I stopped reading the entirety of your posts when you said driving at high speeds is physically exerting enough to make an exception as a sport.

At this point I just skim to find what’s relevant, because you say a lot of nothing.

Yeah it’s not the turning of the wheel part in cars without power steering. Definitely couldn’t be that. Wow you’re showing how stupid you truly are.

I have owned vehicles with no power steering. It’s not as bad as you’re making it out to be.

I hope to god no one ever calls themselves this

You think weak auras are required to raid? Yikes. My logs are open. It is crazy that I’m topping the heal parse of probably 100% of my heroic raid kills while being carried.

If you think weak auras are necessary then it’s probably because they are for you because you suck. There’s nothing wrong with knowing your limitations. I applaud you.

A couple people in this thread are giving off strong “cyber athlete aspirer” vibes.

Probably the keyboard surfer with a bone to pick over “their” word being “appropriated”.

Could definitely see you calling yourself a cyber athlete unironically.

You’re really reaching. That comment reeked of desperation.

I was extremely good at sports in high school and am still very active in my old age so I don’t feel the need to try to bend the definition to tell people I’m athletic.

You’ve built your own logical trap. YOU defined fast twitch=skill and then without proving that it is skill, or the superior skill, used your own definition to say WoW is not fast twitch, and therefore, not skilled.

If fast twitch=skill
and
WoW is not fast twitch
then
explain why so few are capable of AOTC or CE without violating your own definition that only fast twitch=skill
