My experience multiclassing every caster in pvp + Tier list

Normally, I play mage, I have 3x R13 mages on Era, love the class, always fun, not in SOD though. I have a R13 mage on SOD, R13 ele shaman, and a couple boomkins on horde and alliance. I also have a benched shadow priest and warlock. I knew SOD would be FOTM rerolling alt friendly, so I aimed to have every caster available to play. Here’s my experience against the classes from horde and alliance perspective. This is with the current BG health pools + damage reduction % modifiers. World PVP not worth discussing, it’s beyond broken. Whoever gets the jump wins there.

Mage - Full Bis + R13 gear tuesday + ZG 5/5:
Probably the worst class in the game, goes oom way too quickly, and the damage is terrible. I’m ZG exalted and the 5/5 ZG frost spec is terrible. Ice lance does no damage. The best mage spec is a hybrid frost/fire talent spec with the main damage being arcane barrage. Spam 41 yard living bombs and barrage when its off CD, hot streak when bombs proc, and chrono heal. Backline char and is an uphill battle against every class. Spellfrostbolt has a 30 yard range, no pushback resist, ice lance hits for a wet noodle. In fact, everything hits like a wet noodle and you go oom doing it. Living bomb and living flame tick for a very tiny amount of laughable damage. Any time you blanket nerf damage in pvp, it will always ruin mage. Not worth playing right now, and I wish I could enjoy it. I play undead mage so I don’t have to deal with shamans.

Shaman - Full Bis - Ele - Rank 13 tuesday
Shamanistic rage is op, burn flame shock is op. Main weakness of shaman is 20 yard range flame shock, bloodmoon totem will give you 25 yard range which is better, but you have to sit in melee range to do damage, and alliance have a lot of warriors and rets to make your life miserable. Otherwise the class is very solid, borderline op, 1v1 very op, Riptide and ES was good 1v1, but never enough in a 1vx situation, now its just OK in a 1v1 situation. Better now to use the GCD to do damage. Very insane toolkit, but range is not that good.

Boomkin - 1x in full T1, 1x fresh 60.
Boomkin, the ultimate god mode class. Insane mobility, 36 yard range, spells dont even cost mana. Dots tick and crit harder than warlocks and spriest combined. Ranged nukes hit harder than any other class in the game. My random dungeon geared night elf boomkin is annihilating everything, shamans included, and does more damage than my r13 ele or mage. Boomkin on alliance side is more op than on horde and right now I am just doing stupid things on a fresh 60 boomkin. Love Alliance 1 min ab queues compared to horde 15 min queues. You can play boomkin two different ways. 36 yard range line up each team member with 3 dots and starfall, or spam damage turret into one player. TBH you can do both of those. I can’t understand why they do the highest dot damage AND single target. Mobility is insane, stealth, frenzied regend and barkskin + proc healing touches are insane. No mana problems so shifting out to heal and running with travel form is OP. probably one of the most egregiously op classes i’ve played in any version of wow. I crit starsurges for more than lava bursts most of the time due to fire res.

Shadow priest - benched
Not much to say here, damage is average, but you have to choose between average damage or dispersion, can’t have both. No mobility, and mana issues without dispersion. Simply outclassed. Playing disc is much better. If you’re a priest you should heal in bgs as disc for sure.

Warlock - benched
Average Damage, survivability is very high, but a lot of that is tied to your pet, which you spend most of your time healing it, pulling it back, running away, resummoning. Spend more time healing my pet than anything else. Not worth playing there are way better options.

Now, fighting all the classes as different classes in BGs, I can give you a tier list.

  1. S+ Tier - Disc priest - heals aren’t nerfed, healers make a huge difference
  2. S+ Tier - Resto druid - the good healing classes are op this meta
  3. S+ Tier - Boomkin - the class has everything - nothing is better
  4. A+ Tier - Ele Shaman - huge damage and insane toolkit, it’s like a hunter but with HEALS!
  5. A+ Tier - Hunter - Since the health pool damage increase, hunter is slightly less op than it was. It was insane when no1 had hp or gear, but now, much more managable. They can’t heal so thats nice.
  6. A Tier - mortal strike warriors (WITH HEALER SUPPORT) - warriors need healers, but when they have them, they are incredible, and MS is OP. You need a healer to be good though. Solid premade backbone with a healer.
  7. A Tier - ret paladins. Very nice toolkit, very nice damage, melee range is annoying, but a good ret paladin is a god. Better than warrior solo, similar to warrior with a healer.
  8. A Tier - rogues. The more hp you have against a rogue, the better. If you don’t have a trinket, lip, or fap against a rogue, they are usually going to win. They are the best class outside of BGs too.
  9. B - Tier - Shadow Priest
  10. B - Tier - Warlock
  11. C - Tier - Holy paladin
  12. C - Tier - Healer Mage
  13. F - Tier - Any mage trying to do damage

Can’t argue against your list at all. Lines up with my experince also. You do not list Enh Shaman though as i guess you havent played it , but I would rank it somewhere around A tier between Ret and Rogue.

What they did to shadow was criminal. Everyone with 2 functioning brain cells knew shadow was at it strongest at phase 2/3 and blizzard caved to the whiner mob and gutted the spec.

If the devs didn’t know this would be the outcome they have no business making class balance changes at all. If the did know and did it anyway then what they are would probably result in me getting a forum vacation.

Definitely think shadow priest and mage were victims of early phase nerfs. Mage is a huge victim of % damage nerf modifiers. They also completely forgot to do anything about mage mana efficiency in sod.

Am I high or is this list incredibly accurate when you left enh off this list because the class is completely irrelevant.

Enhancement shaman is probably A tier, but yea ur probably also high. Ele and Resto shamans are better than enhance. I don’t play enhance so can’t speak to it, I don’t have a problem fighting them on my alliance boomkin, but then again, im a boomkin, so…

Idk, imagine forgetting an A tier class, sounds like a sleeper F tier. I can’t think of a worse melee than enhance, especially after the 50% heal nerf.

I didn’t forget it, I didn’t list every class and spec, enhance isn’t really on the radar. It’s slightly worse than ret paladin though. If it was S tier, I would have posted it. Def the worst shaman spec tho. Shamans as a whole are S tier class probably when you consider rsham never ooming and goated heals

imagine imagining

Ret Paladins and Warlocks should be in the S+ Tier, while Elemental Shamans should be placed in the A Tier.

I woukd say 1v1 Enh is bottom A tier but in a group fight I find my Enh Sham has a bit more survivability over my Rogue.

The list is honest. Most of the healers are best in BG. Without healers you can’t win. Boommie is god.

The issue was the constant 2 dots to silence to mind blast to sw: death to a potential dispersion if anyone tries to attack the priest and watch them die combo. Let’s at least try and create a good and balanced game here. They still have the ability to do this, now they just have to choose between surviving easier or kill easier. it’s a balanced trade off

honestly on the issue of priests and dispersion + vp, the numbers are no longer the same as when they were multi dotting people and dispersing so people could do nothing but die while flailing on the spriest.

theres flat % dr on spells and everyone has very inflated hp pools in bgs so it would be much less of a problem as the dots dont tick for even as much as a moonkin does and would be very survivable .

and before you say “but but , wpvp doesnt have the hp increase” save it. most of the classes can do massive damage in wpvp without the hp pools and to just pick 1 class out of all of them for the rules to apply and not to the others is silly.

really put vp on a leg or chest rune and let them have disperse.

cant possibly be as broken as moonkin/pallies/hunters.

I just find it strange that hunters and spriests get nerfed the next week where as pallies and druids have been going entire phases untouched.

Shadow Word: Death has a totally malign interaction with the blanket damage reduction as well.

You consistently take 70%+ of the damage dealt from the rebound effect.

Pretty accurate list for the classes in question tbh, I would rank rets same as boomies but I suppose that only applies to good rets, not the majority of what we usually encounter

I have rank 12 of every class and will have 3 rank 13s tomorrow and 3 more the following week. Boomy, Ret and Hunter are the best classes/specs atm but Ret and Hunter require more raid items to get to that point. Boomy is pretty good with easy to get rank 10 ,dungeon items. The runes and mobility make up a lot.

If enough people keep making noise about PvP it should at least force their hand to acknowledge us… Now, whether or not they do anything is what it is, but at least we’ll know they know and stopped turning a blind eye to it.

I’ve seen some folks say there’s no point in doing PvP changes at this point now, and I highly disagree with that sentiment. We still have a LONG way to go in SoD before it’s over. We still have at least 1-2 more phases of basic classic content and then maybe another phase or 2 of new content. I would assume at least another 6 months of gameplay before it’s done.

Fixing PvP or at least ATTEMPTING to do so would probably incentivize a lot of players to play more often instead of raid logging. I know LOTS of people who only raid log now because of the state of PvP specifically. They want to PvP, but they get it in other versions ONLY because they can’t get it here. It’s a real shame.

Thank you for making this post, truly. Not to diminish what other classes are going through, but as a mage it has been very melancholy seeing our whole class being basically useless for half of the game.

The healer meta for SoD has to be the worst part of it all. You’re basically invincible with a good healer. PoM on priests is simply too strong a CD. It’s braindead and just hops every time damage is incurred. Wild Growth is also crazy, basically a prayer of healing that can be cast on a specific group. Oh also Circle of Healing! Goodness, the healing changes make healing so much easier in PvP. Penance is also barely any mana and heals more than greater heal. I remember p1, if you saw a few priests on the enemy wsg team, you were never going to kill anything.

The thing is once most people get their rank they are never queing bgs again
