My Experience in Northshire

I reserved my character on Grobbulus. Got home from work at 6:30 EST and logged in. I was position 10,000 or so, estimated wait time of 300 minutes. I figured I wouldn’t be able to play, but was glad regardless that Classic is here.

I checked out the forums and saw that Blizzard had unveiled five new servers – none of which were RP-PVP, so I just picked an East Coast PVP server. I got in instantly and recreated my character.

Logging into Elwynn in Northshire, I saw dozens and dozens of people jumping around. I didn’t experience the launch of vanilla, so that was a unique experience. I got the quests to kill Kobold Vermin and gather wolf meat. We resorted to making ad hoc groups to have a chance at actually completing the quests. I’d say it took 20-30 minutes.

The next step was to kill Kobold Workers: again, make a group, camp the spawns. About 15 minutes.

Finally, we ventured into the mine to kill the Kobold Laborers. Fewer players had gotten that far and it took maybe 15 minutes tops.

I then got the quest to collect the Defias gear. And that’s where I gave up, after about 20 more minutes.

I’m glad that Classic is here, but having done all these quests countless times, I can’t say it’s much fun. I’ll probably follow other more patient people who’ll wait for the massive crowds to die down.

But it was sure interesting to participate in the launch.

I didn’t play Vanilla, but I do remember quests/zones that disappeared during Cata and I’m looking forward to seeing those again.

Might have to wait to play again though, as the lag made doing anything impossible.

There are many questlines that I have only done once and that I am eager to revisit. Leveling in retail, so much of the content seems somehow hidden, even though I distinctly remember doing content at the time that I really enjoyed.

I remember there’s a really long inter-continental questchain around level 45 or so that takes you all over the world and seems neverending.
