So ive been Mia most of BFA. I spent the first few months leveling alts on both horde and alliance.
Ive had no interest in m+ or raids because the raid gear looks gross and im a mog hunter.
Anyway my guild is pretty damn big. Constantly recruiting and never less than 30 people on all during legion and early bfa. The past few days ive been on my high lvl toons that are actually in guild and noticed guild chat is super quiet.
Even on my lowbies i lvl that are in guild I saw very little talking and figured people were on discord.
I felt chatty tn and checked my guild roster. Only 3 of us were on and a lot of people havent been on since february… or longer.
This is crazy to me. Im not even knocking bfa, I just have never seen a guild die like this and thought this one would survive a looong time.
I see people yall about stuff like this all the time but I roll my eyes. Guess i was the idiot.
Pointless post I know. Whatever though.

Welcome to BfA, OP!
This is a common issue that many of us have had to face this expansion. Don’t think for one moment that you’re a minority if you have a dead friend list, dead raid team, or a dead guild.

welcome to the club. Almost everyone I knew, quit too. You’re not alone by any stretch of the imagination.

Whoa, whoa, whoa…people still play? I figured it was nothing but elaborate bots at this point.

Guild name checks out.
But yeah, I took a break from my horde toon only to come back and find out that just about everyone left. Not even just mia, straight up left the guild and it looks like the game all together. Our guild leader of like 5-6 years straight up left her guild.

well, pretty sure they’re going to have to develop viable npc bots that can tank and heal and dps, if things don’t start improving.

Happened to my Guild as well. I only use Guilds for the Guild perks though, so It didn’t really bother me when everyone left.
Which is probably why they started testing AI in “PvP”.

I just want to point out, since its inevitable that people will continue to post “welcome to BfA” and similar trash, that it’s totally normal for mega guilds to die off.
Back in Cata and early MoP, WRA had <Incite>
.
Then it totally died when the GM stopped playing.
Then we had <Cosmic's Playground>
for the 2nd half of MoP and WoD.
Then it totally died for reasons I know nothing about.
Then we had <Lightning Lancers>
for Legion.
Then it totally died because the GM got outed as a pedo or something.
All of these were ~1k member mega guilds. All of them died. It never had anything to do with the quality of the game.
People ALWAYS have anecdotal evidence of “Dead Game” due to empty friends lists and guild rosters, every expansion. Those people need to realize that it’s normal for such things to happen, again, regardless of the state of the game.
Meet new people.

Bfa is generally not a liked expac. Sub numbers are dropping accross the board it’s pretty obvious.
I doubt 8.2 is gonna help anything. My time dies i something like 28 hrs. To hell with bfa personally.

Guilds die because life changes, people come and people go.

I don’t disagree. It’s clear people are at the very least disenchanted with it. But I think that term is probably best – I don’t feel that BfA is significantly worse than Legion, which many people loved, I think if anything it’s -too- similar to Legion so people are bored of it.
As has been happening since Cata. There is no actual data for this after patch 6.1 or so. Maybe it’s accelerating. Maybe it’s not.
And no, don’t try to quote Blizzard’s MAU report, which includes ALL of their games. That’s not helpful and says nothing about WoW.
I think it will do a -lot- to help with the main issues people like to harp about.
I -don’t- think it will help retain players much better, because as I said, I think people are just tired, period. I don’t think BfA’s issues are the real reason they’re not happy.

These days that is the norm. I saw a ton of guilds die in WoD and am seeing a ton of guilds die in BFA. Bad expansions will do that…
Idk why but some time during MoP Blizzard decided it would be ok to release crappy filler expansions and that is how we got WoD and BFA.

I think Blizzard is to blame for making M+ rewards so good and removing tier sets. It is causing more casual Heroic progression guilds to fall apart.
M+ is taking away many skilled players away from bothering with Heroic Guild Progression, and unless you’re on a very populated server, you can’t even find more players to recruit.
People don’t see the point on banging their heads raiding Heroic difficulty when the gear you get in there isn’t even an upgrade for them. Because why - ? You will have to OUTGEAR the place to ease through it.
All they need is 3 or 4 friends to run weekly M10+'s with, and they’re good to go - they don’t even need to be in a guild to get their AOTC.
This environment Blizzard created really sucks from a Heroic progression guild’s perspective.

Nah, my friend. Every single game that’s been made or going to be made behaves like this. Sub goes through the roof when new stuffs came out, then drops to at least half in a few months, rinse and repeat.
In WoW’s case, most of the people who complains that WoW is dying are often also the same people who started playing WoW at its very early stage, which means most of them are most likely in their late 20s or early 30s by now. They have more responsibilities IRF, so less time for WoW, which makes WoW feel like it’s dead. They blame the expansion, which is not completely wrong because this expansion has more problems than before. But if we really want to find something to blame, it’s gonna be the players, me included.
Oh, what about new players, from younger generations? Well, in case you haven’t noticed, MMORPG aren’t really their thing.

Happened to me as well, Did well through MoP, survived WoD with our core untouched, prospered throughout Legion, we were really hyped up to progress on M, 3 months into BFA 3 of our core members retire out of boredom, a few weeks later our GM tells us that we’re taking a break until we can reform our core because it became harder and harder to recruit appropriate members, 4 months in, guild disbands.

So you were MIA, but you expect your guildmates to not also be MIA when you come back. Interesting.
