My concern with Covenants, amirite?

I’m afraid they will be limited in content due to size, forcing me to alt sooner than I normally would. Is this a correct assumption?

Are the Covenants engaging and large enough to keep you playing your main? I can’t simply switch Covenants when I finish the storyline right?

This is legit bothering me… I didn’t want to alt as much as I did in BfA.

I am more concerned covenants are just another non-ending power grind that is dependent patch to patch, never ending “do this” to “keep this and gain this new ability”. “Oh, covenants now have new quests in order for you to get this item ingame, yeah you need to do this first though, which is time gated by 4 months.”

I also fear that one covenant will be op for one type of game play and the devs will have to nerf it because that is what everyone uses.

I have not seen either one of these concerns discussed and solved by the dev team.

I just don’t like tying player power to Covenants when I consider all the previous precedent we have with Blizzard heavily tweaking systems post launch.

The system will funnel players to choose power/utility for their preferred end game content over what they actually like thematically.

Blizzard needs to get it right at launch, not after.

I fully expect there to be much excitement over Covenants and then as the expansion unfolds far more anger and resentment. Why? Because Blizz has a history of nerfing, tinkering and not fully testing before shoving things out the door.

Also, as Zoxpox said - this will be another unending grind to nowhere. The sheer number of currencies in the game now is mind boggling and yet they keep adding more, all with the simple goal of keeping us subscribed longer.

Alpha hasn’t been out for a long time and we don’t know enough about covenants to engage in that level of discussion yet. The devs are probably very keen to the idea that one covenant could potentially be OP, but until we have enough feedback and testing has gone on for much longer, there isn’t any discussion to have.

I would bet good gold that the dev team is already pretty set on the power grind system and rewards for covenants already. They don’t take much feedback on systems like that, they adhere to their play-time metric more than their customer’s enjoyment of the game.

I would not expect much to change at all with their design and use of covenants, maybe a cosmetic change here and there. But, this will be the new neck/ap/cloak grind.

Hope you pick the right one because you will be screwed if you don’t.

Didn’t they change the cloak grind so it was more alt-friendly, which was a huge point of contention for many people who have multiple characters at the endgame? That sounds like them listening to feedback.

they took out about 10 mins of cut scenes, they did not make it more friendly, just a bit less time. You still must power each cloak on its own and still earn all the rep on your own. The game is NOT designed with playing alts in mind. They add a few things after the game is no longer relevant and call it “alt-friendly.”

That’s kinda my point… Seems Blizz took the anger fueled feedback on BfA’s alt situation with this new system… So now we’ll go from alt unfriendly, to alt somewhat friendly, and now mandatory alts to see all the content.

I hope I’m wrong or overthinking it…

How’s it any different than Class Halls, then? You couldn’t play the Warlock Class Hall campaign as a mage. You would have to level a warlock to play it. How was that not an issue but covenants are?

We’ve had more currencies than we ever needed between legion and BFA alone compared to the rest of the game.

Aren’t Covenants tied to their own quest hubs? Serious question… If Covenants are just rehashed Class Halls then I have no issue, although its kinda unoriginal.

For example, Class Halls didn’t limit Val’Shara to just druids… Does Ardenweald limit questing to the other Covenants? That’s basically what my issue is…

Uh, what did you think about the amount of content for Order Halls in Legion?

No, not at all.

You quest in all the areas.
