My Client is - constantly 'waiting for another update'

My wow client sometimes when i exit starts trying to update. As it should do with any patch.
But unfortunatly i cannot download the update and play again. the client sits on "waiting for another update. And if it does start to update it sits on “initialising”.

Weeding out issues - no other game requires an update. The Client would have updated after 30 minutes of this issue if it needed an update.
My internet works fine. The client itself seems to be in an infinate loop issue.

Can someone help? or a Wow Tech support person.
Thankyou

Same here. I’ll go through my specifics and stuff that usually fixes the issue, but I think this is at heart a Battle.net issue that needs fixing. On first start-up of Battle.net update will “Initialize” but remain stuck on initializing forever. Closing Battle.net and reopening it will keep the update on “Waiting for another update” forever.

Restarting my computer will allow Battle.net to “Initialize” – but again will be stuck on “Initializing” forever or “Waiting for another update” forever if I restart Battle.net.

Running Battle.net as an administrator, again, sometimes fixes the issue. Restart the computer and run as administrator on launch.

Deleting the Battle.net program data folder can sometimes the issue. Restart the computer and then delete the Battle.net program data (hidden folder in C:) prior to launch. You’ll have to relocate your World of Warcraft folder on launch.

Flushing DNS through command prompt sometimes fixes the issue. Make sure Battle.net is closed, google how to flush DNS, flush DNS, and then restart your computer and launch Battle.net. Or restart and then flush DNS, or even both ways to be safe. This one in particular usually fixes the problem for me.

I personally don’t have other Battle.net games installed. Battle.net itself isn’t updating. Updates are just permanently stuck on “Initializing” or “Waiting for another update” unless one of or all three of the above are done.

Edit: Just fixed my issue this time, finally. So, this time my problem was solved by flushing DNS with Battle.net closed and then reopening Battle.net. Prior to this I had restarted my computer once and deleted my Battle.net program data, though I don’t think this is what fixed the issue as nothing changed until flushing DNS. Seems to be a DNS issue.

If you have any Battlefield games installed, the update process used by EA will disrupt the WOW update agent.

You can either stop these processes using the task manager, or remove them from the boot config using the services tab in msconfig.exe

The names are:

  • Origin client service
  • Origin web helper service

If this doesn’t help, then check out the services tab in msconfig.exe

Click the ‘hide all microsoft services’ and look for any thing else in there which might be an update service for other games you have installed.

This is a bug in bnet app, as it shouldn’t be waiting on a process running (but not actually updating anything) from another vendor. I have added a bug report in the bnet forums.
