I have been in pvp for more than 20 minutes, nothing can change it, tried turning it on and off again, tried using my heartstone, taking a flightmaster, going in a dungeon… cant fix it
Check your quest log, do you have a PVP quest in there?
No pvp quest in my log
On your Talents page there is a warmode setting. Clear that setting and you should then see an actual 5 min timer under your portrait to show you will exit pvp.
I hope Blizzard add some kind of messaging so players realise that they aren’t going to unflag despite the UI saying they will… Perhaps a message, or better yet, toggling the PvP flag also clears Warmode.

This is what your looking for… must be toggled off via being in org thru that menu, then waiting 5 mins for the pvp flag to fade

You must have both PvP disabled via the character portrait option toggle
AND
Warmode disabled on Talents…
Some are saying that some quests lock PvP on as well?!
Lets go through a user story (this was my case for several hrs while hunting for the solution)
Start state (PvP enabled, Warmode enabled)
Player comes back for the new expansion
Player is in org, sees they have the PvP crest indicator and wants to clear it
They click their portrait, and select disable Player v Player.
At this point they get a “helpful” message saying wait 5 mins with no PvP action in friendly territory.
So they wait 20 minutes… and they are still flagged.
So they look and the option says PvP disabled,
So they toggle it, no effect after another 20mins
They look online, and start dumping quests, taking flight paths, etc…
But until they find the info that it is both Warmode and and the PvP setting that can trap you in PvP, they will have no success… Despite the UI telling them wait 5mins after unsetting PvP.
fyi - I’m just adding the user story to underline why it is a bug and the potential impact, to maybe prompt Blizz to look at fixing it, as I doubt they want some players struggling with their UI for hrs over some incorrect info in the UI… Particularly with PvP if they are getting stomped.
