My biggest fear from playing SoD is having the rug pulled out from under me (again)

I haven’t played WoW seriously in several years. Classic is enticing, and I’m genuinely thinking about jumping back into it – however, after seeing how the plug was completely pulled on TBC Classic, I’m not exactly brimming with confidence that Blizzard will make the right call when it comes to how they bring SoD to an end.

Honestly, I made this video a couple years ago, and a lot of my questions and concerns are still relevant:

For me, SoD seems like such a cool idea – but because it’s still a decent investment of time, I find it hard to dump potentially hundreds of hours into a character whose fate I have literally no idea what it will look like. Or if SoD is “nearing the end of the season”, or if this is something that’s going to continue progressing into new content for years.

My fear is that if I spend the time leveling to 60, gearing up at a snail’s pace because I play pretty casually, the “Season” could wind up coming to an end before I ever got to see Naxx. Or hell, if the community is at sweaty as people seem to say that it is, it’s possible I could put all that effort in and never even get to experience the revamped MC – and I ran that raid for like 17+ years trying to get the stupid Eye of Sulfuras.

While there’s never any guarantee of “getting to see everything” in an MMO, I would certainly feel MUCH more comfortable dedicating a significant amount of time into SoD if I felt like I knew what exactly the future holds for my character. And no, vague statements like “oh, I’m sure we’ll figure something” out aren’t really much of an answer.

If the “Season of Discovery” is expected to end, and a new “Season” begin requiring new characters, then that is highly important information for me. It could honestly wind up taking me like a month or better to level (it’s been so long since I played Vanilla, I just honestly don’t know, but I’ve always been slow when it comes to leveling). So I would be feeling pretty demoralized to put in that effort just to have the rug pulled out from under me before I even had a chance to really DO anything.

As always, I feel like communication is a super important thing, particularly for Classic. Keep your secrets for things you are planning that you want players to discover, but please, give us SOME insight into what the future holds for our characters. I honestly don’t know that I even care what the answer itself even winds up being; I just want to feel like I’m on the same page with whatever you guys (Blizzard) are thinking, so that I can set my expectations accordingly.

Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED talk.

If you wanna get into SoD look up on ironforge.pro and see which servers are populated. Figure out if you wanna heal dps or tank. If you wanna dps play a rogue hunter spriest or shaman. Avoid playing a warrior at all costs. SoD has also lost more than 3/4ths its player base since launch.

I’d bet eventually we will go into TBC SOD, so this train is going on a long ride. All aboard.

The player base already mostly quit I highly doubt they will extend this into newer xpacs if bliz were smart they would scrap this and use sod as a baseline for classic + and do what OSRS does and poll changes/what people actually want but blizzard has never been a company that valued or asked for what their player base wanted so thats a huge stretch.

Honestly if I were you I’d just wait for whatever the next new fresh is. It’s already hard to find groups at max level for dungeons. You’re going to hate how behind you constantly feel

I’ve been spamming lfg channel on lonewolf us ally for the past week to get into the new DFC dungeon as a tank or dps haven’t gotten into a single group while being in the instance.

You have got to be trolling.

The sod house is on fire and you’re sitting inside it going “this is great”.

Lmao

Really? I dont get that impression at all on CS. Youre a SoD hater because of no GDKP. You havent even played P4.

No one take Drinknblink seriously. Hes just a troll who hates SoD.

Not gonna lie, didn’t read passed the first paragraph or two … definitely didn’t click the video link …

But, thanks for sharing.

Okay so TLDR: You want your character to be a trophy you can show your grandkids.

If you want to have any enjoyment of Classic products, you should probably put this idea behind you, or go to Cataclysm and try your hardest to catch up.

I have never understood this trophy coveting in WoW, it’s just so weird.

I might. Let’s see.

Drink, what’s wrong with SOD? I want to see if you make points I agree with.

You don’t have to wall of text if you don’t want. You could probably cover all the bases with single word points.

Thats up to you on whether you want to sink the time into it. Nobody her can answer your questione, and blizzard definitely wont. Its up to you to decide what you want to do.

Personally, i feel no attachment nor nostalgia to any character i create, so if they told me id have to start fresh tomorrow, i would, because its nothing more than a mindless time sink to relax to.

And yet he doesnt. Because hes a GDKP troll. He quit in s3 (his own words). He knows nothing. 15k posts btw.

Bro it’s like 3AM. I’m not expecting an instant reply lol.

He’ll come around.

Maybe.

Failure on unique content.

Bad balancing.

Incursions.

Som raid copy/paste instead of putting in work.

Heat levels are lazy, instead of doing or adding unique stuff they just continue to recycle the same stuff

Where’s the new content?

Massive amounts of bots.

Just to name a few.

K i’m with Blink, I’d love to see you try to invalidate even a single one of his points.

Regarding OP…

Last season what they did was allow transfers to Classic Era when the season ended. It might not be the same this time, but you should at least consider that it is a very likely outcome, so what you may end up with is a vanilla (no rune, etc.) permanent version of your character.

I thought I’d read they specifically said they weren’t transferring characters to regular Classic servers after SoD?

I mean if that’s the case, that’s awesome to me. Even if you obviously lose any SoD-specific gear and “runes”, I would be much more interested in trying to “catch up” on SoD, if I know at the end of the day, it’ll still go back to the Vanilla servers to continue playing.

Would prolly be really hard.

Who cares anyway tbh, it’s a seasonal server people knew that
