…is re-living the terrible Vanilla experience I had and I am looking for hope that things will be better this time around, and advice to ensure that it is.
Original Vanilla was pretty bad for me. I didn’t get to raid and felt generally like a second class citizen. Earned a total of one tailoring epic throughout the whole experience, got trashed left and right by raiders (was on a PvP server) and I went into BC with a log full of group quests because nobody wanted to do them.
Funny enough I came from EQ into WoW and it was pretty similar there as well. Never got max level in that game because finding groups was so tough as a druid. I guess navigating the social economics of MMOs was never a strong suit. xD
However I’m interested in giving Classic a shot, to basically get a second chance. I know a lot more nowadays, I have more freedom to spend the hours the endgame requires, and I am basically going to hope for a better experience this time around. My goal right now is to find a great guild right off the bat so that progressing and finding dungeon/raid/group quest groups and such aren’t an absolute hell like it was back then.
You have more time and more knowledge, which is 85% of it. The other 15% is your personality and sociability. If you’re a decent enough person and people like grouping with you, you pretty much just solved the issues that likely lead to you feeling ostracized before. You can do raids (and I doubt we’ll need to raid anywhere near hardcore to clear the content), you can group with people, and you know enough to pull your own weight.
Finding a guild is something I’m not sure about either. There’s no Classic recruitment forums (as of yet) and I don’t know of any that I’d aim to join either. I assume that’ll change when the servers actually go up.
I don’t really think I was ever a bad person. Just…quiet and awkward. That’s what always made things tough for me I think. Some would argue that the fact that I even have to ask about this sort of thing is a red flag.
I figured with all the anticipating that there’d be some sort of recruitment thing up, even if Blizzard hasn’t made one yet. Figured it’d be a discord or something. I honestly have no clue. But I really would like to find a good guild before Classic opens up. What guild I find will determine what faction I roll beforehand.
Sadly it’s a tough thing to do as a very introverted person. I want to try talking a bit more when it comes around but the fact of the matter is that socializing and talking does get mentally tiring. A lot of the time in current WoW I just want to log on, drink a beer, do stuff, and keep to myself.
You didn’t have to be a bad person, you just had to be quiet, not really talk or respond or reach out, and as you said - rather awkward (weren’t we all?). It’s not a red flag at all, this is a chance to go through the (some would call) golden age of the game again but this time, actually enjoy yourself and leave it with a good feeling. And that’s a good goal to have.
There’s probably a community for it, but I haven’t looked into it. I honestly should, now that I’ve nailed down just what I want to play (for a main). It could also have a Discord. I do know of one vanilla server community, but you want to stray far from them.
You’re right about the 85% knowledge thing. Still debating what I want to play but I’ve narrowed it down to either mage, warlock or rogue. I want to DPS and know that those would generally be my options. Faction is still undetermined.
But yup I figured there might be a recruitment group out there somewhere. Some of the class discords have a channel dedicated to Classic already.
Well. That’s always an option too but if you want to do group content. You’re going to need a group. Now some groups are quiet. Ya just gotta find the right pack for you.
If you want to ensure you’re high in demand, play an Alliance Warlock. Of all the pure DPS classes it tends to be the least popular - purely because of Will of the Forsaken making it brutal for solo PvP. Most people in PvP tend to lean towards Forsaken because of how powerful a racial it is. If all you do is PvE, it doesn’t matter, and Warlocks are always needed. Hunters are also a good choice (though it wasn’t in your list) for the Tranq Shot they bring. Of the last two, Mage is a better choice than Rogue, as ranged is always preferable to melee and Mage also has portals and food.
Largely play what you want. You’ll enjoy it more.
I’m not advocating avoiding any groups, I’m just saying there’s one in particular with a rather bad reputation. Other than that I don’t know any Discord server or community.
nu-classic will be a lot more inclusive because raids will be easier for everyone this time around due to 1.12 mechanics/talents and game knowledge. There will be pug MC and ZG runs weekly and even some PUG aq and BWL too eventually.
I can feel this honestly, just get a O.G and say whatever you want. People will either, accept it or won’t care. Works for me every time. You have one friend that you can just do whatever with and others will pop up.
Indeed I am. Add them to discord even. There’s a huge gaming community. We have multiple tools to build communities that play across a variety of games, guilds, and clans. There’s no reason to not use the tools.
I have the opposite of it. I was pretty into it and got quite far, and I was a Warrior. I’m going with Alliance and a Hunter this time - and I hope to find similar success. Though probably more PvE than PvP this time.
Unfortunately, classic isn’t exactly attracting a ton of new players. Those same people that never wanted to do the quests and run things with you, that’s everyone that’s going to be on classic.
Watch these forums, especially when it’s getting close to launch, and join a casual guild that wants to focus on group content.
You can make this experience better, you just have to be proactive, because it’s all the same people again.
But by just talking on these forums, you should be able to find some people willing to group up with you when its time.
