My authenticator died today RIP

A useless piece of information passed on to you all… my authenticator died today. I had it since they came out. RIP.

Yes, I used my phone to authenticate myself, but still sad =(

Wish they’d make it easy to change the battery but I’d have to destroy the casing to get to it so not worth it.

My understanding is that the battery cannot be replaced anyway. Opening the device bricks it intentionally as a security feature.

I personally switched to the mobile authenticator a while back and actually prefer it. I wish that Blizz would let us use something like the google authenticator instead though. I don’t really like having an additional app just for my battle.net account.

I don’t mind it actually. Some other platforms use the same thing as an authenticator, and it does tend to get a little annoying if all the same.

I actually prefer it, because doesn’t it just do a “WAS THIS YOU” confirmation? It’s been a bit. But that is nicer than having to lookup numbers to put in slightly.

Think it also hit me with a notification so it’s not like I had to have the app ready to go. Then again, I did just swap phones so maybe I should take a look at this and make sure it’s working proper before I get locked out someday…

Technically, you can do both! If the “Was this you?” doesn’t pop up for some reason, the numbers are available as a backup.

got to admit, now that Ive been using it, I like the added security and bag space.

At this point I think it might be irrelevant. They probably finger print your machine and GUID the install. Probably how they were able to quickly ban wave all the people using services to do the mage tower with out a lot of friendly fire. 1000’s people that usually play on their machine with their install all do the mage tower on the same machine and install.

Now it’s just a way to normalize getting you to install software with their EULA on your phone.

Mine died in a house fire back in 2014  It was the cataclysm model. Only reason I got the mobile authenticator a year, or two ago was for the 4 extra main bag slots.

It doesnt, but it destroy the casing because you have to pry it open. Im not keen on google, or facebook, or the likes, so I prefer it the way it is.

You dont have to choose. I have both. Hmm… “had”. Best of both world. My little friend and the bag space from the phone one.

I still have a flip phone, so if my authenticator dies, im SoL :C They really need to have some way to battery change.

I got my authenticator all the way back in 2009 or 2010. How it still works today is beyond me. I’ve got the app at the ready in the event it kicks the bucket, but until then I will keep using it.

for op authenticator

Yours lasted longer than mine. I still keep it as desk deco in a place of honor.

I actually like the Battle.net Authenticator and have had good like experiences w Authenticators specific to games but I like blizzards app the best just in like responsiveness / and quality.

I’ve had bad experiences w google / microsoft / large authenticators like that only in that when upgrading phones they’re just difficult to work w in working things out- my battle net one was easy and like the transition was smooth I remember, I got the iPhone 13 Pro when it came out the other year and I think I’m still locked out of my microsoft Authenticator
