Mx Reds or Silvers

Looking to upgrade my keyboard and get a Leopold FC750r. Can’t decide if Reds or Silvers would be better for playing WoW. I don’t want to accidentally hit abilities and also don’t like very clicky and tactile feeling keys. Is the difference that big?

Both are linear and shouldn’t be all that different… no tactile bump, no click, just a smooth downstroke. Silvers just activate with less travel.

As far as I can tell the main appeal of switches like MX Silvers is for those who are convinced that they play competitive FPS at a level where key actuation time makes a difference (spoiler: 99% of players don’t). Reds should be just fine for WoW and any other game, and in theory should be a bit harder to accidentally activate than Silvers.

Consider MX Blacks. They’re like Reds with a bit more give as they’re pressed down. I have both an FC750R and an FC980M from Leopold with Cherry MX Black switches and I can’t ever go back.

Ever since I saw TotalBiscuit’s personal office tour (RIP John Bain) and he mentioned he was using MX Blacks for the somewhat reduced noise I hadn’t looked back.

Errant keypresses can have significant consequences in WoW, and it always feels like you’re a half-twitch or a heavy resting finger away from that with silvers.
