Any other monk healers having a hard time integrating renewing mist into your rotation?
Maybe it’s just because I’m such a low level but it doesn’t feel super useful to me. I’m queuing for dungeons nonstop to get better, this is my first time rolling a healer. (Main is prot pally)
Right now my strategy is pretty simple.
Soothing mist channel
Cast Enveloping if SooM isn’t enough
Fill in any heavy damage with vivify.
Bubble if things get really janky
If a second target is taking damage I just swap (after topping off tank with EvM), do a soothing and get off an enveloping, and that’s usually enough because most damage to DPS in the dungeons are sporadic. I could probably save mana by just hard casting a vivify. (oh snap maybe if I had ReM on the tank that Vivify would help them too… Mind blown)
I use tea to get extra up front heals on Enveloping when the SHTF.
Essence font doesn’t have the HOT yet and I rarely use it except when the team is moving and lightly damaged and I don’t want to slow everyone down.
I’ve been trying to work in renewing mist lately and I feel like I’m rarely able to use ReM + Vivify effectively. Only once was I able to get ReM on two non tanks who were taking lots of damage and heal them up with Vivifys to the tank.
Any advice?
Talents are lifecycles, tigers lust, and I swap between chi burst and the one that buffs EvM
Firstly, I would recommend using EM, while channeling Soothing Mist. It makes EM instant, also if your having to use EM, I suggest following up with a vivify to top people off to make use of the 40-50% healing increase. You can use Vivify combo with soothing as well to make Vivify instant.
Second once you unlock your mastery Your Essence Font HoT makes our mastery hit targets effected with the HoT twice. So when your group takes alot of aoe damage lets say 3+ members in dungeons and 6+ in raids. You want to follow this something along these lines.
Essence Font > Vivify > Renewing Mist (You should have a charge up at this point.) > Into another Vivify
Also Renewing mist makes Vivify cleave heal other targets, so if you get good at making sure to keep a 95% up time on renewing mist you should have 3 up all the time. That’s 3 targets that also get healed when you use Vivify.
I suggest using Renewing Mist while on the move, and during any downtime. Hell even if people are full hp Its recommended to keep using it just so you have it up to make use of the cleave effect.
For Thunder focus tea usage, i recommend prioritizing free Vivify’s for most your healing. For pure emergency’s you want to use your Thunder focus tea on the EM to either save a dps or to drop a massive heal on your tank.
Edit: Also If you want to learn abit more go watch some Mistweaver M+ Pov’s on youtube, maybe it might help with your rotational issue.

You should be throwing RNM on CD having it up and ready for pulls. I agree, throwing RNM on people during phases of heavy damage doesn’t feel good at all. In keys I’m always just throwing RNM on cd. Also Like Cana said if you are gonna put ENVM on a target follow it up with vivify. ENVM cost too much mana for you to use it in situations where someone doesn’t need HEAVY direct healing.
Oh absolutely Enveloping is always instant cast in a Soothing. Vivify usually is too.
I think I’ll try to cast Renewing right before pulls start because yeah as you said Serethh it feels terrible to drop one during heavy damage. Even on guys with full health as Cana said.

Keep in mind though during heavy damage it’s those renewing mists that will cleave heal vivify. It’s noticeable when they are not on everyone.
It’s worth keeping up it all circumstances unless someone is about to die and you need to cocoon or TFY Enveloping right away.
The issue is your level; you don’t have all of the tools that make the spec work.
Situations in which damage is so heavy that you can’t spare a GCD for Renewing Mist should honestly be few and far between.
As others have said, you more-or-less want to be using the charges on cooldown. Further, the primary benefit of Renewing Mist is not the healing, but the Vivify cleave.
When you have access to more of the spec, you’ll be able to have 2-5 (for a GCD or two) Renewing Mists going on your group, and you’ll be cooking with gas.
Renewing mist is a huge part of our toolkit but easy to forget about.
Personally I made a weak aura that made a noise whenever it was on cool down (same with TFT). Really helped with mythic and raid healing…

I have RM every chance time its off CD like clock work
Havent played my monk in a bit, cast RM on cooldown on whoever doesn’t have it. The spell jumps between targets, so even if the target needs no healing, someone nearby might.

I got into the habit (probably not the best way to do it) popping my TFT with double charge talent and throw out RM (for the extended duration) right before fights, generally on either 2 DPS or a dps and myself, then focus healing the tank and allowing the RM to spot heal vivify for me. Once RM charge comes off CD I usually still have both RM rolling with good time left on both because of TFT, so it allows me to have 3 or 4 RM up at once while focus healing the tank.
I will say I mess it up a bunch and put RM on tank which can be a little hurtful to HPS since I’m usually focus healing the tank anyway.
Um, you should be putting RNM on tank. When you vivify a person who already has RNM they get 1. The primary vivify 2. The RNM lower vivify 3. And our mastery. The tanks should have a RNM.

Holy cow I did not know this… That’s actually extremely helpful thank you! I didn’t know the RNM vivify would hit if you are already targeting that person.
RNM has the benefit of jumping to an injured teammate on its own, so it’s good to have it out on precaution. In most cases you only need one active, but when you anticipate AoE you should have them out on CD, since you could Vivify the moment damage hit to heal multiple INJURED teammates at once.
RNM is less the big heal ability and more a set up for later. Put it on targets for free off healing later, or to make vivify actually really useful. It doubles when you cast vivify on a target with RNM already on them.
If you are the only monk in the group is also your job to get the mystic touch debuff on enemy’s. A quick roll in and spinning crane kick at the start of the pull takes care of this. Very important to do.
