Must there always be a King?

I’d rather shake your hand.

Burger king food is somehow worse than Mcdonalds and that takes real dedication.

No, there doesn’t always have to be one. WoW was special, now it’s dead, an empty shell of its former self. Nothing will replace WoW, people will splinter off and play various other games, there will not be another WoW. End of an era, should’ve been shot many years ago if not completely remade.

Well from what it seems FFXIV (or at least the players who make up the game) fancies itself the heir apparent.

The problem is the same one we have with social media. There is no social media monopoly/oligopoly. There are a ton of competitors out there and no regulatory burden against making new ones.

The problem is the platform is inherently social, meaning users will self-select to the most popular ones. The most attractive will almost always be the biggest one because the entire purpose is a bigger audience. We see this in faction and server choices, too, within the game.

The “crown” effect is inseparable in any game so built around the population of the game.

Yes there are thousands of websites like Twitter out there …however in the end when someone mentions an instant message site what is the first one that comes to mind.

If there is no competition that can actively compete a pusedo monopoly is create.

That’s NOT what a monopoly is. Just having dominant market share doesn’t make something a monopoly, or FB could never have killed MySpace. A monopoly means some form of authority prevents competitors from competing. So long as consumers CHOOSE a single product/service/platform without coercion, then you simply have a dominant product.

As I mentioned, anything with a core function being social, however, will always run into this kind of selection bias.

someone has to lead so the sheeple have something or someone to follow…

In that case there should always be a few wolves in the shadows ready to steal the flock away if the shepherd is not due diligent.

I love me some BK I will fite you over this!

That is correct a throne should never be a comfortable thing to sit on.

This thread is a weird way to go about complaining about Asmongold on a different game. I applaud the effort! But seriously, players that crowded him deserved their bans…

So what your saying is if a person is questing in a zone we all have to go somewhere else or risk a ban all because that person is a streamer?

Don’t act so naïve, you know very well that wasn’t what was going on.

I am not saying there were not legit snipers I am just saying some were just caught in the crossfire.

And that is a shame and very much a fringe case which can be sorted out easy enough by contacting support. But don’t think it was just due to someone being a streamer it happened. It happened because a large group of people was harassing someone and that was -NEVER- okay in that community. FF has always been the type to ban over every little thing.

It sets a precedent. I do not know know but I do not want to be questing and then get suddenly banned because I happened to kill a mob someone else was planning to kill who happened to be a streamer and then cried “Harassment”.
