Eh, it would essentially just end up being like one of those “fun server” private servers where people just duel or do BGs. I’m not totally against it but in any case the chances of Blizz doing this are nearly zero. There are some cons to this idea as well. One obvious one is that people who would otherwise be playing on a regular server, would instead be on this arena server. That takes away some of the community from these servers. Another less obvious con would be the affects on the economy. Items that are valuable for Arena might shoot up in price or players may be hoarding resources with the intent to use them on this arena server instead of selling their excess/unneeded mats.

I don’t see the effect on the economy being a bad thing. If anything adding value to an item that is otherwise value-less would be good for an economy.

Also, the ‘detriment to community’ argument is flawed in that most people won’t upload a copy of their character, and retail poses a bigger threat to maintaining this community in that people will be subbed to both.

If people end up quitting the game due to boredom from playing out all the content or due to periods of content drought then there is no community to destroy.

The goal of my post is to offer extra content in a form where there is minimal impact on the classic experience. And as stated, it would not be implemented until one of last phases.

Also, I just want to be clear that the player base is blind if they think the original Classic server they roll on in August will thrive for years. I see Blizzard releasing new servers periodically that start in phase 1. Where people can re-roll and start from scratch on a new phase cycle- ultimately resulting in many servers with staggered phases. And this would be the biggest threat to community preservation.
