Multiclass - Would it work in WoW?

I’m not talking about whether Blizz would do it, or how “hard” it would be to implement but if Blizzard could do it… Would you? What would yours be?

Not combining classes together but having the option for trading a spec for another classes spec…

Me… Either Evoker with a Druid Resto spec or a Mage with a Fury Warrior spec.

Won’t lie, for a moment I thought you meant how FFXIV does it’s Job system. It certainly would make my life easier.

I think there would be different ways to do it.

The most obvious example would be FFXIV and FFXI, which allowed you to play the same character while switching classes on a whim. The problem with FFXIV is that your weapon type is tied to your class, which wouldn’t work with how WoW is structured, so the FFXI approach might work best. In FFXI, you just had to talk to an NPC to change classes (like respeccing specializations back in the day).

Then you have games like Dungeons and Dragons Online, that allowed you to “sacrifice” a level of your class to dip your toes into another. The max level was 20 (back when I played it, not sure if that’s still the case), and you could distribute those levels in, say, 15 Paladin and 5 Monk.

Guild Wars 1 also allowed multi-classing in a sense. You couldn’t change your main class, but you could have an off-class to draw abilities from. The off-class would perform a bit worse than a main one, but it allowed you to have enough build diversity.

I think the problem WoW has when toying with the idea of multi-classing is that the game is largely designed around class fantasy and identity. Your character is your class, for better or worse, and I feel like allowing you to be everything and anything might detract from that.

That being said, it would be kinda neat to have all the reputations on a single character. I personally vibe with that kind of gameplay a bit more, but I understand why it’s not in the game.

Noooooo, no no no no no no, please no. You have pallies which are warrior+priest, and that’s more than enough. You think you want multiclassing but you don’t. Do you really want to fight hunter/lock combo? Or even worse hunter with flight form?!

Yea! PvP would be MUCH more interesting in that situation, but I’m talking about just having a different spec from another class not combining them in any way.

Sorry, saw multiclassing and had ascension Vietnam flashbacks. Dropping class to pick another up is fine.

Note to self: stop only reading the title of the threads or another ban is coming soon.

I have a few ideas for multi-classing I would like to see but my take on it is a bit different than just take some spells from other classes would say its more of sub-classes or additional spec for classes.

Works for druids. Tree huggers can do anything.
