I’m not exactly sure their reasoning, but I don’t think everything comes down to the bottom line for them.

If I put on my tinfoil hat it is a coincidence that a lot of hardcore mythic raiders were planning on multiboxing in SL to get all their alts to 60 simultaneously to get ahead of the race. Even Preach was talking about doing it.

Maybe their anti-cheat team said it’s difficult to distinguish between a botting/cheating program and a program that duplicates and sends out keystrokes.

So, if they want to remove more bots/cheaters, they need to remove multiboxers too.

I would have guessed that it’s related to WoW Classic. Don’t they have a lot of botting issues?
