Multiboxing isnt a problem.
BOTTING (which is usually accompanied with Multiboxing) is a HUUUUGE problem.
I don’t care if a living person is paying for 2-10000 accounts. Do I think they can spend money on better things? Yeah… But that’s none of my business and it’s not against the rules.
People who BOT though, on either one account or multiple, are ruining the game. I’ve run into many botters in the same spot over 6+ months, and it was VERY clear they were gold farming to sell on one of those gold seller websites.
Not only does that ruin the spirit of the game (what’s left of it), but it ruins the economy, it ruins the time of people passing through that zone, it causes people to be spammed with gold seller nonsense, and it also puts people’s accounts in danger… Both the people who purchase gold (They shouldnt be doing it anyways) AND everyone else… because if your account gets hacked… 9 times out of 10 it’s going to be used to fuel the gold farming.
So. While Botting can be a little annoying to deal with, it’s not against the rules and not actually a problem… It’s when people actually break the rules that it’s a problem. Like with botting.
Now, if someone isnt actually botting and using all their accounts to break the rules by manually farming to sell for gold, then yeah, that’s not good either.
I ran an experiment with a friend (oh who am I kidding? We were just being jerks) with all the druids in Nazj. They had them out in WM too farming herbs! So, me and my friend started following them around… Then all of a sudden… One of them invited us to a raid! Turns out, ALL of them were in the same raid group, but while they mostly took the same path, they didn’t all respond in the same manner all the time.
Then… We used our beloved Slivers. That’s right. THOSE Slivers. We started killing them while still in their raid group, and while 1-3 of them actually just broke and stood there, the others would actually try to fight (terribly) and moved 100% different of one another. They also all spoke differently and at different times…Though it was very hard to understand them. What we DID manage to google translate out of them was ‘Life is very hard, this is the only way we make money’… SO. They were actually real people at the computer, maybe 1-2 accounts each… but they were still breaking the rules it seemed by farming with intent to sell the gold so they could survive IRL. A little sad. But against the ToS.
TL;DR
Multiboxing isnt against the rules unless you do something against the rules, just like any other accoutn. BOTTING though is a huge problem, but while Botting usually is done with Multiboxing… Multiboxing isnt always done with Botting.
Hopefully one day all the Botting can be stopped.
