Having multiple characters follow you and perform an action with a single macro is a similar concept, imo. You are not individually manually controlling those other chars.

I did play WoD, but as I noted before I donāt use the AH for bulk herbs/ores (selling or buying), only for equippables and the like, so I have no idea what the market looked for those things looked like back then.
Either way I think thereās probably some way the game can be designed that lets people who gather instead of buy do their thing reasonably efficiently without also killing the market. If I feel herded into using the AH constantly something is wrong.
You can still find articles and complaints about the WoD mat market. Specifically how the garrison murdered the AH market. Herbs, mines, etc were all but worthless compared to retail now.
Itās kinda binary in this sense. If they give you a way to get herbs unabated by external forces then youāre going to get what you need without interfacing with the larger community. This is exactly what they didnāt want to happen again post-WoD. They want people using the AH.

Surely thereās knobs that can be tuned, though? The garrison approach was clearly way overboard, but thereās no reason that anything new has to be as anywhere as good as garrisons were.
It just doesnāt seem right that gathering professions are essentially useless on all but multibox or bot characters. Itās a whole category of gameplay weāre basically told trade in for yet more world quests.
Define for me what useless means.
I ask as there are millions of players and some 1% of them multibox. Thatās nowhere near a significant majority so clearly regular players are still enjoying gathering?
Useless as in you canāt reliably gather what you need, at least for more in demand herbs. I can farm up as many lightfoot potions as I want, but if I want a few stacks of max rank health pots Iām going to have to circle Nazjatar for hours, which is impractical for most people, forcing use of the AH and in that particular instance, making my herbalism skill a lot less useful.
Thereās like 200K zināanthid and 700K tidespray linen on the AH every day on illidan. Itās hard for me to imagine that this is all from normal players. These huge quantities clearly affect prices and make it harder for normal gatherers and farmers.

Thatās not the issue though. The issue is zināanthid is the most in demand herb on the market and it only drops in one zone. A zone now one patch old. That means really the only reason people go there is for zināanthid.
You, a dozen others and 10 boxer on the same shard competing with hundreds of other people on other shards. All funneled into the same AH.
Believe it. Bleeding Hollow for example has over 3k players. You might see a dozen of them in Nazjatar but that doesnāt mean there arenāt hundreds in the zone on other shards.
Oh dude, I didnāt even realize you were also on Bleeding Hollow. That doesnāt happen often, the server isnāt what it once was heh.
