Multiboxing EQ vs WoW

I went back to EQ for a bit and forgot how friendly it is to multi boxers. EQ is completely against botters and have MB limits on some servers (their true box servers) but I was shocked at how different the community is on the subject.

Just sitting in the starting area, people were asking for advice on team comps which mercenaries to use and were actually getting good friendly feedback on the subject.

Then I was back on the WoW forums and saw all the complaints and hate and complete lack of understand that someone might do this for reasons other than flooding the AH or PvP.

Both games are MMORPGs, I mean technically WOW is an EQ clone / killer, but it really is crazy how 2 very similar games have a drastically different view on the same style of gameplay…

One reason is most people don’t understand the difference between multiboxing and botting.

From what I have seen, most of the people who are really against multi-boxing feel that way because they view it as directly hurting them by reducing income from the AH

Other players…those that benefit from the reduced prices, don’t seem to care as much

I have seen 2 reasons:

  1. I want to make money on the AH (like you said)
  2. I just got killed in PvP and want it gone.

It’s just funny so many in WoW can’t see any other reason to do it. I personally found it fun to try to run current level dungeons by myself. It’s a shame so many can’t see it can be a fun play style.

Multiboxers are cheaters, and doing so is cheating at the game for whatever rationalization the cheater makes.

So Yngwie, care to explain how it’s cheating? Is my playing 3 characters and 3 mercenaries keeping you out of my group that big of a problem for you?

Is me leveling without you in my group, running my own instanced dungeon by myself that big a deal for you?

It is cheating because you are only clicking once and operating three characters. It is absolutely against the heart of a game.

I am not offended at all by it or bothered by it. It is cheating though. Nothing you do affects my gameplay at all, that isn’t an issue. It is cheating, though. You’re playing 3 games at once, using software to manipulate the program. It is cheating. Again, not bothered by it. Just stating a fact. It is, by definition, cheating.

I’m going to go shred my guitar and putdown lesser humans now.

Care to elaborate on that? I mean it’s not central to modern RPGs but earlier RPGs like Baldur’s gate had you run a whole party, like in D&D. Blizzard has no issue with it, thought they did just remove the SW portion of it because they claimed it made batting easier.

The heart of the game is to have fun in the world of Azeroth. If I want to play 1, 2, 3 or more characters, it’s having fun in the game. If I take 5 characters through a dungeon meant for 5 characters, how is that cheating? It’s actually harder to do solo than it is to simply jump in queue and be carried along by others…

Have fun shredding. I have some Disks of Mishakal to go guard

Look at it like this

If we are looking at open world and making money it’s basically like a running race but the single box person is at the starting line and the multiboxers get to start at the 80 metre line because they slipped $200 to the race organiser once then started trading in the medals they win to keep doing it

If you can’t see how doing everything 3-6x faster with 3-6x less button clicks and 3-6x less time spent is completely antithetical to Blizzard’s current iteration of the game (everything takes longer to do for less reward), then we can simply agree to disagree here, my man.

And again, I have nothing personally against it. But in my opinion, it is certainly cheating, by definition.

Also Everquest has as many monthly players as old school RuneScape has daily players - if you halved it

Can you link Blizzard’s definition on how MBoxing is cheating? Or are you using your own personal definition to aid your argument?

As well, seems like you do care about it, like deeply based on your dedication to label it as cheating.

EverQuest would shut down if you removed multiboxing.

EQ also requires a group for the vast majority of content

As someone who recently retired from live EQ after being on the bleeding edge for almost a decade i can tell you EQ would be even more of a wasteland without multiboxing… I used to run 3 accounts. Most of my guild ran at least 2, with close to a third running 4-6. Their player count relies on boxing because without it grouping would be impossible.

WRONG. Blizzard, NOT you, decides what the ‘heart’ of THEIR game is.

lmao…literally NO its NOT cheating…and it doesnt matter how many times you all spew this joke up in here loll

no…literally its not…see above

no…its literally not…see above

no…its literally NOT.
The RULE MAKER says its not.
It really is that simple.

Multiboxing, or playing multiple World of Warcraft accounts at once, is not a violation of our End User License Agreement.

SO explain this whole, multi boxers get ahead start or

Is it because I can level in a group without having to have friends? Is the whole leveling faster that big of a thing for you when it now takes a whole 12 hours to hit cap? What part of the game is the MB getting faster than you? Can you not form a group and run the same leveling content? Is it because the MB can run a dungeon while you have to wait for a queue - because if that’s it roll a healer or tank (like the MB is) and point is gone

The main reason is “People who don’t play like me according to the the personal restrictions I have saddled myself with are playing the game wrong and should be banned.”
