Multi boxing has been around probably as long as MMO’s have been around. I understand it’s a pain if that guy with 40 accounts is on your server locking down an area. And to be honest I’d stop that if I was Blizzard. But the ones that a few toons on follow don’t really bother me.
I’m not really against multi-boxing, have at it if you enjoy it, but trying to use the command /follow as justification is beyond stupid.
I was speaking from a position of my direct experience but it was so long ago I don’t remember when it was and I’ve all but forgotten how to pvp, it’s been that long (like 10 years). So maybe my memory is hazy.
I do agree they aren’t that functionally different at the end of the day than a good gank squad.
Can you show any valid use for it OTHER than to move a character around you are not actively playing?
“Hey man I have to go afk for a sec while we run to this quest, i’m gonna /follow you ok”
Note that isn’t “hey man i’m gonna mimic every action you do aswell”
So you are asking someone else to multibox using your character?
As a mainline healer, in Vanilla, I struggled to get gold, finish the elite quests, farm leather etc. compared to other classes. So I made a rogue, and levelled them up. At the time I chose to use a 2nd account for the Rogue because I wanted to get full value out of the work of my healer, so had her follow along behind. Having the pocket healer meant I could do a lot more and I was actually still able to benefit from my earned raid gear etc, instead of just having to do all of my chores in quest greens.
So it really annoys me when these blanket sweeping statements about “Ban all multi-boxers” come out and demand that I be prevented.
Each of my characters has an RPG ‘backstory’, a separate (semi-distinct) personality when communicating etc, and isn’t 1-shotting PVPers. Why shouldn’t I be able to benefit from my in game achievements.
If you want to ban multi-boxing in Battlegrounds, go right ahead. I see the significant difference in advantage there. But people need to be more discerning in their arguments because its not black or white.
I’m… starting to think you don’t actually know what multiboxing is, and you just want to be apart of the conversation.
You are right, it’s only there so someone else can AFK. Most of the multiboxers I’ve seen were standing in each other though, and moving as one blob basically, which suggested they were all being controlled from a single source and not on /follow. I could be wrong though, I’m just speculating. I’ve never even seen someone IRL multibox, so I have only the most basic idea of how it even works.
not going to lie, I came across a multiboxer and it ruined my experience in pvp…. even in wpvp.
was bunch of ele shamans and a healer… I got frosh shocked to death followed by some lighting bolts… I had to log for the day.
I do stand by this as they should never allow it.
The only reason Blizzard needs to allow multiboxing = $$$
Though I suppose you may have a point with the tokens.
That doesn’t really make it healthy for the game. Not to mention it’s using a third party program to control a ton of characters at once, which absolutely is not “clever use of game mechanics”
Multiboxing includes a character on follow, flipping through screens and pushing buttons on each. It also includes using multiple keyboards.
Also the OP says:
So /follow is part of his issue.
Its also what multiboxing software uses to follow the controlling character
Huh, looks like I was right. That is emphatically not what multi-boxing is. If it was, nobody would have an issue with it.
I can tell you from experience, they use /follow. Leaving your move keys active on all characters have them ending up going indifferent directions.
Alt-F for the software I have used is just /follow
That is very well said and I agree, they are just a bizarre novelty in all other aspects but pvp. I think you have all the right in the world to play like that, that’s no different than me playing two characters at a time in D&D imo.
They should consider making you a classic MVP, your posts are always well thought out.
You mean players who add a single number pad to control 5 characters attacks with a macro for follow? Its how people multibox on truebox EQ servers.
You only include software like ISBOXER? Yeah that just puts as many screens on one as you set up. THe only difference is it adds a broadcaster so 1 press presses it on each. Which Blizzard has already said is fine. Especially since it can be done with hardware.
If I dont know what multiboxing is, can you explain which software you use and how its different than what I stated?
For every token paid for in gold, someone paid 20 bucks to provide the token. Bliss actually makes MORE money off of subs paid in gold
WPvP has always existed.
Ah, I see. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen one, thanks for explaining how they work.
