Multi r1 prot pal quick guide!

Talents

  • Holy shield (the only benefit of blessed hammer is generating holy power without needing to hit something. Holy shield is too strong imo)
  • crusaders judgement 100%
  • fist of judgement, you can run rep or blind if your playing a stun heavy comp
  • spellward vs casters, cavalier vs melee
  • seraphim (tankyness, damage, burst), divine purpose if you want more healing
  • hand of protector 100%
  • sanctified wrath (longer burst uptime, can keep team alive during wings)

Pvp talents

  • hallowed ground (most classes have a slow, the more uptime you have the more damage and healing you will do)
  • shield of virtue
  • optional, I run warrior of light to maximize my dps and burst, I always use short spell bop and sac vs mage teams to match combust cd, guardian should be used here for most players. I don’t use guardian as much because at r1 mmr people will instantly cc it.

Legendaries

  • bulwark of righteous fury, significantly increases your dps and huge burst with divine toll.
  • judgement, uther, endless king, and sephuz are all situational. I’m using bulwark 100% of the time for now.

Covenant
Kyrian - Pelagos, divine toll + bulwark legendary = big burst, ringing clarity, word of glory, punish the guilty conduits
Night fae - blessings are decent, my damage was significantly lower when I was night fae compared to kyrian.
Necrolord - more survivability
Venthyr - could be good but 4 min cd on ashen is way to long and people will just run, also has a 1.5 sec cast time.

Stat priory: vers/mastery>haste>crit
I prefer mastery over haste because of holy shield. Mastery = block, blocking will significantly reduce damage tanken and reflect damage back, it also buffs your attack power and healing.

Comps 3v3
S tier, ww prot pal disc, warrior prot pal r shaman
A tier, prot pal (enhance, dh, boomy, lock) healer
B tier prot pal (rogue,dk) healer

Strengths

  • healing (wog spam)
  • utility, spell bop, sac, freedom, disease dispel (devouring plague, rogue poisons, hunter dots), conc freedom, guardian, silence
  • burst, divine toll + bulwark legendary for massive sotr crits

Weakness

  • die in stuns
  • kited easily limiting your holy power generation
  • lower sustained damage compared to other dps specs

Macros : just copy the party 1 macros and add party2 or type in mouseover if you prefer that.

Tips

  • dispel devouring plague off your teammates, it’s shadowpriests top damage.
  • taking short spell bop pvp talent is good vs rogue mage. You can always trinket spell bop combust on yourself or teammates
  • your most susceptible in stuns, using your ardent defender wall preemptively can save your life
  • try to avoid stacking against warriors unless you have divine toll burst, their cleave hurts!
  • spell bop can be mass dispelled but not purged. Be ready to hoj, silence, or kick the priest after you use it
  • use spell bop against rets and shamans for wings/ascendance
  • stacking as much mastery as possible will make you significantly tankier

This is just a quick guide. I’m sure there’s a lot of information missing and I will update it when I can.

Hey love the guide just wondering if night fae would be better once we get our final soulbind? I think korayn might be the best soulbind of them all. I’m trying to focus on healing as much as possible so I always use divine purpose. using mag judgement leggo against double dps and uther for healer dps, and love night fae aesthetics. Also I only play 2s what’s the best partner?

Night fae and judgement leg is probably the move in 2s. This guide is more specific for 3v3 as I don’t really do 2s.

Comp wise probably another hybrid. Ret, enhance, shadow priest, feral etc

thanks for this write up. re: ardent defender, i think there might be a bug because with a healing debuff like MS, it’s pretty much worthless. gave me back 2.5k HP only.

one thing i’d really appreciate if you have the time…

there are too many abilities being tracked and alerted by GladiatorLOS. if there’s a short list of top priority stuff we need to keep track of, and filter out the white noise, that would be fantastic

good guide bung

It’s so hard to play without steed of glory now that I’ve started, I noticed you don’t even have it listed

Is it really true that we can’t queue as double prot pallies in 2s?

big cds that kill. wings, ascendance, mind games, combust, ,stormkeeper, incarn, dark souls etc

certain cc, monk sweep, bash, death coil, stormbolt, priest fear, kidney etc

major defensives, pally bubble, iceblock, lock wall, karma, shaman wall, etc.

I’ve came across a couple prot palls in arena, you basically have to get carried by OP facemelters.

All the prots at 1500-1600 were easy MMR.

Awesome guide

Still leveling my paladin but using blessed hammer to generate holy power seems pretty good to me in bgs. You can walk into the fight with a wog ready to go. Is the shield really that strong (especially at lower ilvl)? Used it in bfa and found it absorbs/dmgs a lot but not sure in a meaningful way, as every tick is for so little. Looks good on the scoreboard, but not sure how useful it really is.

Thanks for the guide btw!

I think maybe at lower rating blessed hammer is better. Specifically in 3v3 arena I prefer to run holy shield. Theres a lot of prots playing a healer style build where they spam wog. Healing is great but damage and burst is what wins you games. Holy shield does 10-20% of my overall damage and makes me tankier.

If your not holy shield your going to get destroyed by casters.

What do you think about Rsham/Prot in 2v2 and playing the dampening game?

I don’t really do 2s. The only healer I would play with is a disc because they actually do dam. Prot r shaman doesn’t sound very fun or good tbh.

Trying the castsequence for shield of virtue and avenger’s shield… its not working. Gets stuck on shield of virtue. Any ideas? Does this work for you?

Thank you for posting this guide… I’m really enjoying learning prot pally

#protarmy

do you think with a healer build we could forgo a healer in 3s and use 2 dps?

Probably to around 2400. After that it will get exponentially harder. Good teams will cc much better and not having dispel is going to destroy you.

Hmmm I’ll have to recheck the macro. Works for me.

OK, no worries. Thanks for checking!

I actually changed mine to:
/cast [target=focus] shield of virtue
/cast [target=focus] Avenger’s Shield

SoV is off GCD so its one button press, boom, silences healer/off.
Any particular reason you chose a castsequence that requires 2 presses? Is there an advantage to doing it that way?

tanks in arena are so toxic why promoting this.
