Hello,
I’m just curious to see if anyone might also be playing Wow on this laptop and might have similar scenarios.
I just bought the MSI Katana 15 B13V and am playing World of Warcraft on it. I understand gaming laptops will get hot but I wanted to make sure the temperatures I’m getting are normal.
Laptop Specs:
- 13th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-13620H, 2400 Mhz, 10 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
- RTX 4050 6gb
- 16gb ddr5 ram
- 1 TB nvme ssd
- 1920x1200 resolution at 144 hz refresh rate.
While gaming the GPU temp stays around 60 degrees but the CPU temp range is (88-95 degrees). It stays in the low 90’s pretty much most of the time. I can definitely feel the heat on the keyboard.
I’ve played around with the game graphic settings but it doesn’t change the temperature of the CPU all that much. I haven’t really configured any of the MSI settings as I’m still learning what’s on the computer.
Would anyone have any advice?
Intel’s 13th Generation platform is not known for being low in temperature, It’s huge power draw combined with poor process node utilization and a bruteforce approach to compete against AMD’s far more power efficient setup at both a perf per watt and perf mm2 means they are going only for frequency to keep up.
Put this into a small package such as a laptop and you have even greater heat dissipation issues, As someone with a DESKTOP TOWER REPLACEMENT aka a laptop that uses desktop parts, There are ways to cool it but the Katana 15 is a slimmer model that chose ‘trending’ slimline looks over beefier heatsinks.
Your best bet is to repaste it with something like a Liquid Metal Interface and prop it up on a cooler pad, But otherwise you are going to have a norm of high CPU temperatures.

Thank you for the reply! That’s a tad disappointing to hear. I guess as long as the laptop doesn’t break from gaming at that temperature then I’ll just get used to it.
I am happy to report that I found a couple of reddit threads that talked about something about “extreme performance mode” that MSI laptops could possibly enter when a game is launched. Turns out that WoW was being launched with extreme performance mode. So, I turned it off and re launched. I don’t notice any difference in play style but its running now in the high 70’s and low 80’s range which I’m a lot happier with.
