In my 15 years Ive never felt logging in to the game as pointless as it is right now. But thats a topic for another thread.
If you feel like I do and can’t bring yourself to play right now but are very hyped for Shadowlands, what are you doing or playing?
Ive lost myself in the new Microsoft Flight Simulator. I dont have words for how much I love this game. Over the past few weeks Ive flown all across the U.S. in real time, learned a LOT about flying and basically do so with all assists turned off (hard mode) and fly in cockpit mode.
I started in my home town and have explored every major city and airport in the continental U.S. and many Southern Canadian cities. I eventually left Miami for Bermuda, then to some islands off the African Coast, then north for my current tour of Europe which as of typing this, started in Iceland then into all of the UK, Belgium, France, Spain, and as I type this the autopilot is taking me to Lisbon Portugal for a night IFR landing from 40k feet in a Cessna Citation
My co worker has flight sim 2020. He loves it, he actually went to flight school for real but some tragedy happened with his fam so he never got his pilot license. Anyway he talks about the game a lot.
I need to get it but i only have keyboard and mouse and thats my hold up. Cant imagine ill have fun with a flight sim that way.
It’s surprisingly well done with a controller. When Im away with my laptop I play with controller for frequently used things like flaps, rudder, throttle, brakes, steering obviously etc. It surprisingly easy to use the mouse to click knobs and switches in the cockpit, which is of course similar to what you would do IRL, when you reach and flip the switches and knobs with your hands.
My setup at home is a bit different. I use a yoke and rudder for most things. I have joystick I use instead for the Airbus aircraft, as they use a “flightstick” IRL rather than a yoke.
I have an iPad app that allows me to set up an iPad in front of the main monitor that lets me use my real hands to adjust knobs and switches on the touchscreen iPad.
