Just wondering how often or if people ever get scammed buying m+ carries and raids
Well no oneās doing surveys and even if they did very few people would admit to it - so - unlikely to get an answer here.
But if you are buying carries instead of playing the game and earning the gear and mounts you have, I donāt feel a lot of sympathy for you if karma bites back.
From my perspective it isnāt all that common. That being saidā¦ you have no recourse unless itās a very clearly deliberate scam (and even then itās iffy). Oh and if anyone requests that you speak to them in discord to discuss the transaction instead of in gameā¦ /ignore themā¦ Theyāre probably looking to do a RMT, which is VERY against the rules.
Whats an RMT?
Real money transaction. As in you pay them in $, not gold.
As long as you go with established communities/guilds you probably arenāt going to get scammed.
If this is acceptable behavior the LFG tool should have a way to set payment conditions and hold the payment in escrow.
this. NEVER pay someone actual real money for a carry. in-game gold only.
I would also recommend using one of the bigger carry services, rather than random people who donāt really have any accountability.
The carry services hold the people doing the runs accountable for behavior, loot trading, run completion, timings, etc. People donāt get to continue doing m+ carries with those services if they canāt deliver, and the carry services have a vested interest in making the customer happy, as returning customers are good for everyone.
Supported and acceptable are two different things. The behavior isnāt supported by blizzard, but blizzard has deemed it acceptable. From what I understand, they step in if someone is deliberately repeatedly scamming people, but otherwise they donāt pay attention to it. Oh and obviouslyā¦ they drop the ban hammer on those stupid enough to do RMTās.
Blizz says paying gold for dungeon or raid runs (carries, or for specific loot drops, etc) is not against any rules but these are āunsupportedā transactions. Which means that if the seller does not deliver after you paid the gold, GMās will not get your gold back.
If reported, they may inflict some punishment on the seller, if there was clear evidence of a scam, but you still will not get your gold back.
So itās acceptable.
Donāt feel strongly either way but it would be nice to be able to buy and sell runs with conditional escrow protecting everyone. For example 5k one boss, 25k clear 30k timed, extra 10k per loot trade if you want someones drop. Or whatever the prices people charge are.
I dont like that it would be in the game, but if itās going to be you should regulate and tax it.
They should do better about all those posts in lfg tool with websites in them.
I havnt heard of anyone getting ripped off through private carries but most of my carries I have done lately have been through Gallywix. They process millions of gold a day and gallywixās reputation is worth far more to them than some measly couple of hundred thousand gold.
I wish we had some sort of way to separate the real ones from the fake ones, Iād probably buy a lot more runs.
Iāve done it before. The crew that I lucked into happen to be very professional. The transactions were smooth they lived up to their end of the bargain by giving me all the tradable loot at the end. I would use these guys again for sure. Was actually very cool being āinvolvedā and participating somewhat in a group like. Failed PUG and failed PUG my frustrations mounted to the point I was willing to try and see what buying a M+15 carry was all about. I got lucky and got excellent loot drops. Basically I felt like I got to swe firsthand how the āprosā do M+ and not the constant scrubs I usually wind up with in crappy PUGās.
