This is for any Opie experts out there! I have recently set up Opie on my laptop and want to use the same custom rings I have created in Opie on my PC. I do not understand how a Snapshot works to get it to another PC or any other method and there is no guide to tell how it is done. This is what I have tried:
I sent a copy of the whole OPie addon folder from my laptop to PC and renamed the PC’s Opie folder to OpiePC and moved the copy of the laptop version (with what I thought included my custom rings) into the addon folder and deleted OpiePC . Opie loaded but it was as if it was freshly installed addon - none of my laptop set up was there.
The creators of Opie said you can create a profile but it won’t include the custom rings (so whats the point of a profile then if this is not included?)
I looked at my custom rings snapshot on my laptop and their respective strings but cannot figure out how to copy the string from my laptop to PC, I guess I could share it between computers (?) Which file in Opie has these custom settings on my laptop computer? Under the Rings file in Opie there is no indication of a custom rings that I can see.
I’ll admit I’m not good with these sorts of things but have tried to educate my self. I have watch several videos on set up, read guides etc etc. Any Opie experts out there that can help with this? Otherwise I guess I’m left with setting each custom ring all over again on the PC and probably going back and forth between laptop ad PC to make sure I’m getting it right. I wish Opie would make the custom rings part of the profile.
Addons don’t store their configuration in the addon folder. I don’t use Opie, but you should look in either
_retail_\WTF\Account\<user_name>\SavedVariables
or
_retail_\WTF\Account\<user_name>\<server_name>\<character_name>\SavedVariables
for a file named something like “Opie.lua” and copy that to the same location on the other computer.
Sorry for the long post and any redundancy. I have 1 main and I often use that toon as the profile for many of my addons like maps, unit frames etc. for my alts to access. So for Opie once I copy that lua file to the new computer I can have my other alts on the new computer access that profile for OPie?
And for other addons I have to do the same copying of their lua files to the new computer for each and everyone? That seems daunting when your running 10+ addons. Can I just move the Saved Variables file for just my main to the new computer and then my alts will be able to use those profiles for all addons?
This is my file path to get to Opie:
World of Warcraft>retail>WTF>account>saved variables>Opie.lua
This is the file path for my main:
World of Warcraft>retail>WTF>account>server>name> saved variables
Under the account there are all the individual servers files too, then characters names there in, and each toon has their own Saved Variables file, but under my mains name the Opie.lua is not there. The Opie.lua file and all the addons I use are in that lone Saved Variables file. So is that the file I use to get all my addons profiles to the new computer? Making it easier to get it all over in one fell swoop? See I’m confused between an account SV, and a characters SV. Thank you for your patients and educating me!
