Moving from NA to EU, lose account or use VPN?

Please correct me if I’m wrong (and I hope I am), but there’s no way to move your current NA account to an EU account.

So, if I were to move from the US to Germany, my options would be:

  • Create a brand-new EU account and start over, erasing two decades worth of progress and collections, or
  • Use a VPN to keep playing my current account

I’ve looked online, but can’t find a definitive answer from Blizzard on their stance regarding VPNs. There have been several posts/threads of people claiming that just using a VPN triggered a ban on their account.

So, Blizzard: any plans to allow people to move their accounts between regions, or maybe confirm that it’s okay to use a VPN when playing WoW?

As far as I’m aware, you don’t need either. You can just keep playing the US version of the game from Europe.

You’re gonna get a bit of lag due to the physical distance between you and the US servers, but it’s doable.

They really need to get rid of region locking already. That isn’t how the world is anymore.

Oh, nice!

I don’t know why, but I was under the impression that Blizzard has region detection to prevent you from accessing EU servers from NA (and vice versa).

I’d still GREATLY prefer if we could transfer accounts, but I’ll put up with lag if it means I can keep everything.

Playing with a vpn isn’t really worth it anymore, though I’m sure some might still be decent.

It’s possible to play without a vpn, but you’ll have a high ping. This isn’t a big deal for the casual, but for more hl content, it could be an issue.

I did the opposite about 4 years ago, moving from UK to US.
Just cut your loses and start fresh. The time difference coupled with the MS makes it miserable.

Youll be wanting to play in the morning but everyone in US will be asleep.
Or youll be wanting to play in the evening and most of americans are at work or school.

Why would you use a VPN? You can still play your US account from Europe and i dont think a VPN will drastically alter your ping. Youll still be based overseas.

Are you moving for work, Tikaru?

I don’t live in NA… never have… but I have always played NA.

The server location can’t magically be moved closer.

Tbh if I were you, Id move this to the cs forum.
You might get some info you can’t find on google and a blue may pop in to answer questions.

No, but other MMOs have zero problems enabling cross-server play.

It just results in higher ping when you’re in an instance hosted by a different server. (No different than if you’re in NA and you enter a Frostmourne or other Oceanic server’s instance already)

Hell, as stated, we already have cross-server play, just with NA, Latin America, and Oceanic - the servers of which are located in those regions.

Having a separate NA and EU account in 2025 is silly. It’s most likely done because EU has an entire different staff, even support agents. But still.

this is correct. there is no region lock. i know plenty of people who play on both EU and NA servers. i started an EU character as well.

You don’t need to use a VPN, WoW isn’t region locked by IP. Your sole advantage would be potential lower latency.

Using a VPN isn’t forbidden nor leads to a ban, it merely masks your source public IP and changes your network routes.

I’d just make a new account - intercontinental latency is way too miserable, but if you can live with it, you can keep playing the US version.

LA/BR servers are sadly in Chicago.
