Back in legion, when Demon Hunter was introduced, It was sick how they were the first class to actually keep their weapons readied while they were running around in combat. At the time, I figured that was a precursor for a larger update where all classes would get a similar visual pass, especially once updates started rolling out adding brand new combat animations for everyone else.
But then…it never happened.
Other classes still use the same run cycle in combat that they do walking around with sheathed weapons in the cities. I don’t want this to remain a Demon Hunter exclusive feature anymore.
I want to have characters charging into battle with their weapons READY, not just in their hands.
I want the animations for abilities to flow into the idle stance just as smoothly while moving as they do while standing still
And most importantly to me, i want to stop flopping my huge greatsword around like it’s a foam prop when I’m running around
That, and let casters use their weapons while casting. My mage looks silly in combat with her staff on her back, bearing teeth and manicured nails like she’s cosplaying as a druid or something. Looks ridiculous.
ABSOLUTELY yes, though I pictured that being added as a glyph or something rather than a full change since the barehanded casting animations are still good in their own right, so it’d be good to have an option to stick with it
I’m hesitant to drop my expectations too much. They’re still a multibillion dollar studio, despite the union and layoffs.
That is…a large number of dollars
Plus, War Within has been a very good start to the “new era” of WoW since blizzard cleaned house.
DH models and rigs are separate because of how unique the movements are. They would need to rewrite and modernize the whole class/race to allow the same movements.
Not correct. They are retextured blood elves and night elves with horns and blindfolds attached. You can use the Atomic Recalibrator toy to transform into a void elf, which also uses the blood elf rig, and they will have the same combat animations as blood elf demon hunters.
While yeah, there’s some animations they’ll need to add to other races, the thought that they’d need to be totally remodeled and rerigged is not true
Then we should be holding THEM to a higher standard too. If they have those kinds of resources and aren’t using them, that’s a problem right there
the animations in question do work, and what do you mean weapons aren’t held the same? I just checked before I responded, and they held it the same as a blood elf does
i swear, i’m genuinely asking what’s different between the transformation into a void elf holding the glaives as a DH vs a blood elf holding them, because I literally double checked before i responded to you to make sure that they did hold the glaives correctly
Yeah, Blizzard has a track record of introducing cool things and just never touching on them again. It would be cool to get a battle ready stance when running, or having some of our 2004 looking spells updated, and so on, but they just never do it. I mean, I understand that it requires allocating resources to something that is ultimately not all that important, but it would be nice.
it works well enough on the standing still idle animation. The way wow’s models are rigged, they can’t ACTUALLY share animations across races (this is why demon hunters transforming to other races lose their animations unless they are a race with the same rig), so the abilities are animated for each race to line up, more or less, with their standing idle
source? Also if true that doesn’t answer my question
cuz it appears it still works from blood elf to void elf. The only broken animations i spotted were the wings, which makes sense cuz void elves don’t have wings
Edit:
If you still think I’m messing with you, I quadruple checked, this time with a nightborne which was most likely to be broken since they actually DO have a different model, even though it shares a night elf rig.
