Hey all. I’m trying to move files from my SDD to my HDD so I can keep my gaming to SSD since it is only about 226gb where as my HDD is 1TB. I am a bit computer illiterate and am coming across a problem when trying to move files saying I need permission from Trustedinstaller. I was only able to move a few apps that I had downloaded and a few apps that came with windows 10 such as photos, netflix, and a cpl others. I was going to just purchase a bigger SDD but then I dont know what to do because all my windows 10 files are on the 226gb SSD and I would be screwed removing it. Please help this old man out if possible. When I graduated high school they still had manual typewriters and typing class so I’m a bit lost with computers. Thank you all in advance.
don’t quite know how to help. Try to move files fewer at a time to see if you can isolate it, Also try googling
“how to move files blocked by Trustedinstaller” or similar.
But I wanted to come in and say I LOVE YOUR NAME!
Good luck!
I’ve had a similar problem in the past when it came to moving, editing, or deleting files. It is possible it may be a permission issue; Trustedinstaller has ownership of whatever file you’re trying to move and it won’t let you because you don’t own that file. How such a thing happens… I have no idea to this day, especially if you’re the Administrator. Try the steps listed on this website to see if it works for you as it did for me:
You cant move windows apps/files. Im going to assume windows is installed on your ssd and the programs like netflix were downloaded from the MS store? Best option is to redownload those apps to the HDD.
You can brute force ownership of the files but it will cause issue in the long run.
Better to use imaging/cloning software since it will need to copy the boot record etc.

Hey Worgen,
You’re getting some good advice here, but I’m not sure if you were looking for something a little less technical. Here is some general/simple advice:
-
With certain/most programs, you can’t just move the files - you will probably need to uninstall them from the SSD and then install them on your HDD.
-
Look at “Programs and Features”, you can sort it by Size and see if there are any large ones which you can uninstall and then reinstall.
-
What computer do you have? I have had computers with 3-4 drives in them. You may be able to just add an additional SSD for your games and leave Windows on the existing SSD. If you can, this would probably be the ideal solution.
But did you still need to get up and walk to the TV to change the channel?
LOL @ Daddie and thank you everybody for the great advice. @“YOU” …you responded to another post of mine last month and were helpful then. Thank you again for responding to this post…I can add another drive so I’m going to do just that…and yes, I did have to get up to go change one of my 7 channels back in the day. LOL! Thank you again everybody!
226gb ssd, thats really low for 2020, consider doing a full upgrade
I had purchased the computer a cpl years back and it came with the 1tb hard drive and also the 226ssd. I was able to transfer some files to the hard drive and also all my media files. My concern was that I wouldn’t have enough storage space on the ssd with SL coming out but reading another article with a Blue response I would have enough room. I still have 100gb free on the ssd but I’m still going to purchase a larger one. Thank you again everybody for the responses.
We had 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11 & 13 … sometimes if you played around with the UHF antenna we could get 21 (never well enough to really watch it, it was just cool to try and make it happen!)
Back in the day of analog, there were 3 TV. stations, ABC, CBS, and NBC.
Everybody had directional antennas on 40 foot masts on the roofs of practically every building in sight. These antennas were motorized so we could aim them towards where we got the best reception. The antennas were much larger than a pick-up truck bed, length, width, and height. This was normal…
Do/Did you live somewhere in the vicinity of NYC? We have those same stations:
2-CBS; 4-NBC; 5-FOX; 7-ABC; 9-MyNetworkTV (Formerly WOR and UPN); 11-CW (formerly WB); 13-PBS.
UHF: 21, 25, 31, 41, 47, 55, 68
Yes, that is where I grew up!
Channel 11 movies was our HBO back in the day…
Channel 11 was independent prior to joining WB in the mid 90’s
WPIX… March of the Wooden Soldiers & The Wizard of Oz around the holidays and all the Abbott and Costello movies on Saturday mornings!
That was my childhood in the 90s, sans the motorized antenna. We only had a static antenna that dad would get up on the roof and adjust every so often. Only channels we could reliably get were channel 4 ABC and channel 9 PBS, with channel 6 CBS sometimes coming in clearly enough to watch for an hour or so on cloudy mornings.
don’t forget the holiday burning yule log and all those Harryhausen stop motion fantasy films (Sinbad, clash of the titans, jason and the argonauts)
Oh yeah! And what about Chiller Theater and Creature Features?!?
And who remembers when TV channels signed off at night?
