Mouse Flickering Issue

Hello,

I really need some help because WoW Classic is borderline unplayable for me right now due to a mouse flickering issue. I had this same issue in retail 1.5-2 years ago, but I can’t remember specifically how I resolved it. I believe it was from running this command in chat: /console rawMouseEnable 1

Unfortunately, when I try the same command in WoW Classic, it makes no difference. My drivers are up-to-date and I’ve shut off all addons, but the issue persists.

Essentially, my right click flickers when I hold it in which often makes me select new targets or drop targets all together. It’s incredibly frustrating in raids and PvP, and honestly making the game much less enjoyable as the level of frustration is outweighing the benefits of the game.

This issue only occurs in WoW Classic. It does not happen in Retail or other video games at this time.

Any assistance anybody can offer would be highly appreciated! I have premades tomorrow night and I won’t be able to be competitive if this issue isn’t resolved.

Thanks!!

Hey there Vesren,

Thanks for reaching out! Mouse issues can certainly be a pain as there are many variables that can impact its performance–typically something software or settings-related. If you’re using your mouse manufacturer’s software, make sure it’s fully up to date (check their website for the latest version). It’d also be worth testing the game while any mouse software is completely disabled.

If still having issues, we’ve seen reports that toggling “Browser hardware acceleration” off in the Battle.net app has fixed strange mouse issues. Try disabling this using the steps below:

  1. Click the “Blizzard” logo in the top-left of the Battle.net app
  2. Click Settings
  3. In the General tab, scroll down to Advanced Settings
  4. Uncheck “Use browser hardware acceleration when available”
  5. Click Done, then retest

I hope this helps!

Thank you for the response.

I followed your steps and unfortunately the issue has not resolved. I worked with Razer Support to uninstall and reinstall all drivers and there is nothing more on their end. Since it’s only happening in WoW Classic (even with all add-ons off) I think there must be an in-game issue?

Heya Vesren! The fact that the mouse issues only occur in WoW Classic is certainly suspicious, however, if the problem was isolated to some strange interaction/conflict between the game and your specific hardware and/or software, we’d likely be seeing an increase in reports for this specific issue, which isn’t the case here (at least as of yet). Do you happen to have a different mouse that you’re able to use as a temporary test?

If not, no worries! Try creating a new administrator account, and test the game while logged into the new administrator account.

If the problem persists on the new administrator account, try closing any other potentially conflicting programs/applications by disabling startup items using steps 1-5 listed on this page.

Okay, so I’m on my admin account now and the problem seems incredibly diminished but not 100% fixed (which seems really bizarre to me). I’d say it’s 90% better than it was on my primary account.

The only application I have running is Discord, but that runs when I play every game. Do you think that could be the culprit?

EDIT:
Okay, brief update. I deleted all of the game files (uninstall function wasn’t working) and the issue seems to have resolved. But I don’t think it successfully uninstalled the game because when I signed back in it took less than 20 seconds to install an update and my macros are still there.

Hoping I didn’t cause a bigger issue moving forward. :-/

Sometimes those files will “sync” with addon managers like twitch, curse, tukui, or other similar software. I have also seen items like OneDrive or other backup/restore software cause this behavior.

As long as the game is working normally it should be fine. Hopefully the addon manager only installed updated items and any new content doesn’t cause file corruption.

Thanks for following up with us on this. Let us know if anything else comes up!

Okay, so unfortunately the problem has returned. I just deleted Twitch, deleted my interface folder, uninstalled and reinstalled the game and booted back up.

With zero addons running, my mouse is still flickering. The mouse drivers are up-to-date. Is there anything else you might recommend to fix this issue?

Edit: I just noticed that all of my macros were still valid when I logged back in even though I uninstalled AND deleted the Interface folder (which survived the uninstall for some reason).

Macros are stored server side, I believe. No issue there.

Vesren,

Based on everything else you’ve tried, we may need you to test with a different mouse. In several situations I’ve seen that resist troubleshooting this hard, there’s a problem with the contact on the right or left click of the mouse going bad or something. If it works on another mouse, you can try reinstalling the drivers for your main mouse or trying another USB port, but it may just mean the mouse is slowly giving up the ghost.

Hi All,

I had this same problem too and I found two resolutions for it. First one is if you’re running dual screens you have to hold windows key + p and switch to main screen only.

I wasn’t happy with that resolution so I found out the true reason why the mouse flickers and sound static. It has to do with using DirectX 12 it doesn’t play well with dual screen and full screen with windows mode for display on WoW System settings.

To fix this in game first click on Esc (Opens game menu) System - Advanced
Next look for “Graphics API” and switch that to directX 11 and apply.

Like magic all the issues with cursor blinking and sound static disappeared.
I don’t think WoW is ready for DirectX 12 yet. Hope this helps.

This fixed my issue. I was having issues with the mouse flickering as well. Got new 4k HDR monitors and noticed the flickering. Switching to DirectX 11 fixed the flickering.

Thank you.

2022 calling, thank you the direct X change fixed my issue as well.

Recently I “accidentally” fixed my gaming monitor and it now displays in HDR I believe that is when I started having mouse issues in wow with flickering. Swapping to D11 fixed it right away.
