I had 245/250 mounts counted for Mountacular. I know this because I earned the Flameward Hippogryph and I have been taking a picture of each mount I earn and posting it to Facebook for my friends that are following my progress. I also shot a pic of the achievement, that clearly shows 245/250.
From there, I got the Skeletal White Horse from the Argent Tourney on my main Warlock.
Then I earned the Armored Frostboar and Armored Frostwolf from the corresponding achievements on my warlock.
Then, I had my DK build the Sky Golem, which I mailed to my warlock.
That is a total of 4 mounts. But my achievement only shows 248.
I have logged in to all of my characters. They all show 248.
I submitted a ticket, and the response was that it only tracks the mounts used by a single character.
I get that.
But my question is, if I had 245 mounts. And I received 4 more, and I logged in to all of my characters, shouldn’t one of them have 249 now?
Or does one of the 4 mounts I listed above not count for all characters?
Please help, this is frustrating the crap out of me.
Hmm if you’ve earned the alliance equivalent of skeletal white warhorse, it won’t count as a separate mount.
Also, the achievement counter will only tick up if you learn the mount on your highest mount character. Paladin has a max mount count higher than warlock, so if you actually send the mount to learn on your paladin rather than your warlock, it will count toward the achievement counter. Next mount you learn, try sending to your pally to learn and see if it goes up by 2.
Don’t need to learn it on the character, just need to log into the character that has the most mounts available through the collections for it to count on the achievement. IIRC.
This achievement can also flex per character if you have professions learned in the past, earn a mount, learn the mount, unlearned the professions that let you use the mount(Engineering) and that character is no longer eligible to use those mounts. It only displays the highest possible number of mounts that character has ever been able to use and it shouldn’t go down if you lose accessibility to those mounts, but it don’t raise the number either until you fill that “ghost” gap with the new mounts due to unlearning a profession. Could also be fixed by just relearning the profession, but you have to make sure that the profession being abandoned isn’t also giving you mounts that can be used(like tailoring).
That’s what I don’t understand. I had 245. Whether it’s my DK or my Warlock (those are my mains, the rest are lower level farm characters I haven’t maxed out on). One of them has the most, which would be 245. I got 4 more mounts on my warlock. As far as I can tell, all 4 of them are available to both characters. So shouldn’t my mount total be 249? Where is the 1 missing from?
Honestly couldn’t be 100% for sure which one it is, but if you ever faction changed, you may have had a higher number on the previous faction. There’s just a lot of caveats to the achievements and no real way to determine which exactly is causing the issue or why it is happening the way it is. You can always manually mount out your mounts you can actively use in the collections node. I’d recommend submitting a bug report from the in-game menu personally so you can get it to the devs. Talking about it on the forums is fine, but as far as I’m aware, that actually gets the info to them.
Yeah I can do that. I only did this because the person that responded to the ticket said to try this.
I’m not sure how faction changing would suddenly now affect things.
I have been actively mount hunting for a couple months now. I was at the 200ish mark and I started actually grinding.
I’ve been watching The progress closely and keeping track. The only issue I’ve had until now was when I bought some store mounts, they didn’t appear until after I earned an in game mount and then it updated.
So that’s where my confusion is coming from.
I had 243, I bought the legion collectors bundle, it went to 244, I earned the flameward hippo on my DK, it went to 245, then I got the white skeletal horse on my Warlock and it didn’t change, then I got the armored frostwolf and armored frostboar at the same time on my warlock and it changed to 247, and then the sky golem on my warlock and it changed to 248. So something about the white skeletal horse didn’t register. Could it be that my DK has the most and because he didn’t unlock the mount it’s not counting?
My DK can mount it.

The Equivalent of the White skeletal Horse is the Swift Grey Steed on the alliance side. So if you already had that on the opposing factions side, it may have been already counted for that mount if you were alliance at one point, and you wouldn’t get another tick of the achievement for already having received a +1 from the alliance version, but this is where that “Ghost” gap comes in that I mentioned before. You can lose eligibility for a mount, but the counter will not change to be lower to show exactly what you have.
If I knew your character’s realm/name I could look at your collections on wowhead or the site, but it seems you’re using an alt.

This is how it used to be, but somewhere along the lines they changed it so the achievement tracker only ticks up if you learn a new mount on the char with the highest count.
Incorrect. You just need to log into the character that can use the most mounts for it to register. Learning it wouldn’t trigger the increase because all mounts are essentially account bound, minus a few exceptions like glad mounts, but even then that is soon to be changed.

Hmm yeah that is weird. People have been having this achievement tracker problem within the last few months and the solution that has worked for everyone to “update” their real mount count has been learning a new mount on their highest mount char

To OP, what does the statistics tab say on your highest mount char for total mounts owned?
Sky Golem did not count for me as well along with multiple other mounts
i have 297 mounts total
my highest toon is only 224
my achiv says 231
nothing is consistent with the counts and i dont understand it at all XD
