Mount tracking achivement vs. Simple Armory

For years now I’ve been trying to figure out why earning new mounts in game does not contribute to my achievement for Lord of the Reins. Currently sitting at 274/300.

I have opened so many tickets, and GMs are never helpful. I always get the same answer of “counter is not going up because another toon has more mounts.” Well I’ve logged onto every tune, including paladins with engineering, and nothing has worked.

Today I decided to check every toon on simplearmory to see which one had the most, and low and behold every toon has 255 mounts. Now my frustration with not making progress has turned into fear that Blizzard will realize a bug somewhere and take away my progress.

Question is this: How in the world did I get the achievement to 274/300 if I only have 255 mounts on each toon?

How many of your mounts are for the other faction only? The mounts towards the achievement have to be USEABLE by your character, so if your alliance char has some Horde only mounts, they do not count.

Your true mount count is under your Statistics. To get there:

Hit y > Statistics tab > Character > Gear > Mounts Owned

This is what your achievement is looking at. Mount tab, external websites, Armory, etc. has never been accurate.

Here’s an example of mine:
This is my Paladin that I use for mount tracking purposes: Hildemara
Here’s a screen shot of her Statistics page:

I plugged her into this Simple Armory website and it’s saying I have 484 mounts, which is obviously wrong. I wouldn’t use it for mount counting.

Now, where I suspect those 19 extra mounts come from is your class hall mounts. There is a bug where all 21 or 22 (forgot which) count no matter what class you’re on. It’s a bug that it doesn’t look like they’re going to fix since it’s going on 4-years old.

Also, as far as your professions mounts go, they also count on all your characters. There’s only two times I can think of where a mount count is character specific… Gladiator mounts and the Argent Tournament mount is still Paladin only as far as counting goes, but it does count on all your Paladins (if you have more than one.)

Btw, here’s a breakdown of how the class hall mounts are counted:

  • Paladin - 4
  • Warlock - 3
  • Death Knight - 1 (color changing)
  • Demon Hunter - 1
  • Hunter - 3
  • Mage - 1 (color changing)
  • Monk - 1
  • Priest - 1 (color changing)
  • Rogue - 4
  • Shaman - 1 (color changing)
  • Warrior - 1 (color changing)

Here’s the part I don’t remember: whether or not the Druid form counts. There was back and forth on it and I don’t remember the conclusion. But, this breakdown shows you why they never fixed the counting bug. Some classes clearly have an advantage over others.

Greetings Lightwave, Addikos the mount king here, I had wondered this question myself. Here is what I can tell you.

As Tovi mentioned there is an in game counter you can see this by opening your mount tab with shift+p. This count shows all class mounts, and mounts that are alliance/horde specific.

However for the mount achievement, only character specific mounts count. This does include class mounts for that specific toon/class. This is considered to be your true mount count by most top end mount collectors such as my self. This is the one that shows up on simple armory. Paladins have the most mounts with 4 from their legion class hall, 2 for their class depending on race, and one more paladin specific mount from argent tourney (argent charger). The only amount the achievement tracker and simple armory should be off is by 2. For some reason it doesn’t show the 2 paladin mounts based on their race (for example the blood elf have thalassian charger and warhorse) in simple armory. Other than that the achievement tracker and simple armory should be the same. Hope this helps.
