If I buy the level 40 mount speed today and stay 40 until tomorrow, Will I retain the riding skill even though I get squished 3 levels below the needed level for Shadowlands?
In other words, I will become 17 tomorrow and next level of riding isn’t until level 20. Do I lose my money or do I get “grandfathered” in
EDIT: Already answered in Reddit…it’s grandfathered in
You will not lose any flying skill you currently have. Even if you dip under.

What happens if i have 280% flying speed?
Here is the research I did.
I just transferred over a level 84 priest that does NOT have artisan on live. He transferred into PTR at level 32, which is below the level 40 requirement for Master. That makes sense.
I will now purchase artisan on live and retest.
Now, ok, this is interesting. It still shows that I need to purchase Master which is still level 40 but my actual flight speed looks to be retained.
Flight Speed using WA to measure.
Priest copied over without Artisan purchased - 250%
Priest copied over WITH Artisan purchased - 380%
I am going to see if I have another toon that I can test this on to make sure these results are accurate. It looks like a hidden retention of the speed bonus at this point.
Second Test
Level 91 Tauren DK. Expert learned, Not Artisan
DK Live Speed Expert - 270%
DK PTR Speed Expert - 270%
DK Live Purchased Artisian - 400%
DK PTR Says I have Expert - 400%
Third Test
Level 72 Draenei Warrior. Expert learned, Not Artisan
War Live Speed Expert - 250%
War PTR Speed Expert - 250%
War Live Purchased Artisian - 380%
War PTR Says I have Expert - 380%

So it just stays the same?
It does. If you have it before tomorrow you will retain it, even though it does not list it in your spell book.
