I’m currently working on my “Thanks for the Carry” achievement and I had a question about gifted mounts from Blizzard. I have earned quite a few of the Blizzard awarded mounts over the years, and many of them have been awarded via mail, or the now newer “mount” tab in the “warbands collection” tab of the in-game menu.
The question I have is: does it matter which of my toons I open these mounts on? I ask this knowing that the “useable by a single character” has been a thing in the past, but I am uncertain if it still is, or not a thing…?
Should I just open them on the character with the most mounts, or do I need to worry about the usage scenario that I spoke of above?
It should not matter which of your characters claims a mount. At least I have never encountered that as an issue. Just be sure to log in to multiple characters after the mount is claimed to ensure the system recognizes the mount(s) in the count.

But that’s just it. Why would I need to log in on my other toons considering the point of my question? If I claim the mounts on a certain toon, what is the point of logging in on a different toon unless the “useable by a single character” thing is at play?
That has been a point of contention in regards to these types of achievements. Some people say that the achievement doesn’t care, while others insist it does.
There will be, of course, different counts based on faction.

Unfortunately, until Blizzard releases new mount achievements I cannot check my character counts against an achievement count.
I currently have 451 mounts in total on this toon, yet only 415 are counting towards the Thanks for the Carry achievement, so I know that the “useable on a single player” thing is in effect, but I do not know to what extent. That’s the reason for my OP, in that I am trying to be proactive in preventing the 36 mount disparity from increasing.
And you have been logging in to as many characters as possible to make sure that achievement count is updating?
That is usually what is advised so as to make sure whichever character may have the highest number according to whichever type of system Blizzard is using for this is properly reflected in the achievement count.
But I wish you the best in getting your counts corrected and completing the achievement soon.
Yes. I have done this. However, the 36 count disparity is what is driving me a little crazy, as there is no known way to figure out which mounts are counting towards the achievement, and which are not.
The achievement is for usable mounts, not collected. There are a lot of mounts that just don’t count towards the achievement at all, and a pally is always going to be the best class to do it on. They need to just shift it to total mounts, but we also need new mount achieves as the 600 was paltry and the majority of collectors would log in with an 800 achieve at this point. They’ve fumbled the hell out of the mount counts.
I’d also highly recommend a mount add on. It will split useable vs collected automatically for you.
Do you have a recommendation on which add-on would be the best to help me determine this?
Mount journal enhanced and mount collection log are the biggest, but I’d also recommend rarity for keeping your kill counters so you can feel bad when you see it reach 90%+ chance it being dropped for you, and still not get it.
