Howdy everyone! There’s been a lot of talk this expansion about how bad the gladiator mounts are. I don’t like to knock down the artists because I recognize that everyone has different views on what looks “good”.
However, I personally know several people who aren’t bothering to play or push thwir gladiator wins specifically because they think the mount is so ugly.
I started pvping to get PVE gear, but ended up continuing to play after that because I wanted to get the cool mounts. This led to me falling in love with pvp and keeping with it as a game mode.
This made me wonder:
what motivates/would motivate you as a player to push for gladiator?
(For the sake fo this question, let’s assume you have two friends to game with)
For me it would be a cool mount and PVE gear. What about y’all?

Nothing at all.
Never cared in BC in it’s introduction don’t care now.
Arena has always just been something for me to get gear to go wpvp.
Blizzard has since ruined their world by basically turning this into a lobby game and forgetting it was an MMO first.
Honestly I’m realizing I’ve had a sub since October and I have 6 days played for the xpac.
With half of that yime sitting in ques for something.
Why am I still playing this?
Oh that’s right MoP classic and the return to my favorite version of monk

Honestly, my motivations to succeed in WoW are pretty simple. It’s really all about crushing your enemies. See them driven before you. And to hear the lamentations of their women. Also, I like transmogs.

Pushing for glad ? My goal is too reach 1900, just too prove myself that I’am not a total scrub, that I’m just a medium scrub.

The only thing that motivates me is the challenge. Don’t care about mounts, there are like 5k “cool” mounts that I’ll ride over most glad mounts. Don’t care about how the set looks, I prefer naked mog anyway. I just play for the challenge.

- How bad is mmr, especially in relation to other brackets?
- What is the time investment for JUST gladiator? I can go play (as I have) 50 games in blitz and just be 2600+ cr. I do the same thing in 3s and I’m 2k. (With a better win rate sometimes).
- Relates to #1 but how many times am I going to q in to Nahj Qing rmp @ 2400, or ?
Mount is irrelevant. For me to get my friends and play 3s, you’d need to increase mmr so that I never see a r1 team Qing at glad or sub level. You’d need to increase the points I gain per win too.
Oh and you’d need to break WAs. People love to rag on blitz but I genuinely think the fact that people can’t just have perfect responses via WAs and addons in there makes it way more fun.
You can ofc still have them, but the likelihood you’re finding a war that is actually going to reflect as soon as havoc pops is like, 0.
Make 3s feel more natural.

If you want a real mount that motivates players and they’re hell bent on keeping the bat, the solution is simple.
You give PvP a mount that they should’ve had long ago.
Make the gladiator mount have an AH & Mailbox & Repair on it. All 3.
You can go buy multiple pve mounts like that.
Give PvP armored mounts with vendors, bonus points if they sell PvP goods.
Boom participation go brrrr
Even better if it has a unique vendor

Gladiator to me is just challenging enough to feel worth doing. Most content in this game is pretty participation trophy, and this game has the least time commitment as an adult with a packed schedule.
I’m never going to get 3s R1 because my life just isn’t in a place to compete for that, and gladiator isn’t a freebie but it’s not really hard either. The main difficulty is my group of friends are die hard one tricks so some
Seasons we’ve been limping across the finish line at the brink of death but that’s part of the fun.
It allows me to try just hard enough to feel good when it’s done and I get to play with friends which is why I fell in love with MMOs back when I was buying magazines to learn about GW1 when the internet still sucked

Similar to what it is now, so pretty conparable across the board, but not as inflated as blitz. But for sake of argument let’s pretend blitz isn’t inflated either.
Same as it is now. 50 wins above 2400! However long that takes you.

Increase mmr and don’t fight better players than you.

Has to be something I really specifically want like the dragon themed cosmetics in DF. Otherwise I’ll just keep queueing 2s forever

So far I’m seeing that people are motivated by mounts, transmog, and the challenge. What about people who don’t have gladiator? What would motivate you to push for it?
Biggest thing would probably be not having to grind LFG for an hour to get 2 games before the group disbands. 
Because 3s like keys or rbgs or raid is cool when you got people and kind of suffering when puggin.

Some people just enjoy arena combat, the motivation isn’t the mount (for me) but the journey.
For me its peak planting numerous flags on people already riding current ssn glad mounts

Yeah when the mount is terrible that’s the only reason. You get all the other rewards from shuffle and blitz

The bat mounts are awful. They should have stuck with dragon gladiator mounts.
