I wanted to go mining / herbalism, but (to my amazement and horror) realized that mining AND herbalism trackers do not work together. It seems like a (profanity edited, following advice) to switch between them all the time. Will it be more profitable (and fast!?) if I go skinning / mining. Will it bring me more raw cash from auction ? Of course I realize that some professions go well together, but I’ve always just sold my stuff that I gathered and I am super lazy and uninterested when it comes to making stuff (even alchemy…not to mention all those recipes and stuff).
Thank you !
What level are you, is it for this 16 Rogue?
If you use an addon like gatherlite, it puts up previously found locations of herbs and mining. While it doesn’t show if the resource is actually there, you can at least seewhere they are located and then visually spot them.
Thanks, guys ! And yes, Mini, I intend to play rogue (this character is just a trial)
might want to edit out the profanity. Ive been silenced for stuff like that.
I’m mining/herbalism on my hunter and he’s almost made enough to buy his pony at level 23. The secret? I have a tracking switcher macro bound to a key that I hit whenever I think of it:
/castsequence Find Minerals, Find Herbs
Forget about the addons, they pretty much all suck.
Classic GatherMate2 with Spinx GatherMate2 Data is great. Most other Gathermate2 Data I’ve found have retail nodes included, which do not exist in Classic. Spinx only contains Classic Nodes (a few are missing tho).
It’s absolutely trivial to create a macro and keybind it, then click it every time you jump ![]()
#showtooltip
/castsequence Find Herbs; Find Minerals;
I think herbalism is better overall since it doesn’t depend on the rng of -“arcane crystals like mining does. With the added benefit of gathering mats to make your own consumables.
Oh, sorry, I meant the addons that switch between tracking herbs and ore.
Yeah, Gathermate is great.
I’d grab mining and skinning, then drop skinning and hit up engi
I’ve farmed with both; I can’t tell you which is “better”. They’re both good money makers. I honestly don’t ride around zones looking for either. I just farm mobs and grab whatever spawns in the area. For example ungoro crater where you farm fire, that same mountain is covered in spawns for silversage and thorium. You’ll get numerous spawns just staying around the area and grabbing them before anyone else shows up to do it first.
I found herbalism to be poor.
Mining certainly felt better for pure ‘sell’ value.
skinning…people laugh at it but I get 20 black scales in BWL. They make my raidlogging possible.
The best profession in the game is dungeon running mages.
Herbalism is better long term. People will never stop buying consumables.
I funded my epic mount in 4 days farming dreamfoil. Server average was 75-90s each for that duration. They are currently at about 65s each but that is still good money since every expense in game has already been paid for. I’m stockpiling dreamfoil, icecap, plaguebloom and mountain silversage on a couple bank alts for the inevitable price increase when the next raid tier releases. Once their bags and banks are full I will go back to selling what I’ve gathered.
Thank you all for all your answers !!
I think herbalism is better unless you can process the ores into something useful.
I have engineering and make thorium bullets, so mining works out ahead. But without that recipe it would definitely be herbalism
You must not have been doing jump runs in DM:E.
Plus my server has Black Lotus prices at 130-150g per. You’d have to farm 3 arcane crystals to get that much.
Mining is only really good for arcane crystals. Herbs make raid pots and flasks and are always going to be in demand. Just saying.
Herbing is also about to explode with zg/blood vine coming out for classes that can solo farm it
