Most oldest/memorable moment from Vanilla?

For me, I could recall every event from the day I made my first character to the day I I walked through the dark portal as if it was yesterday. However, my most memorable and oldest Vanilla moment has to be when I found out Hunter pets had to be fed.

So there I was, a freshly level 10 Hunter on the edge of my seat in awe at the concept of getting a pet for the first time. I picked out a Prairie Wolf and named it Scooby (After my dog in real life), and the moment I figured out that I won’t be having to raptor strike every enemy down for the rest of the game I was hooked. I immediately went back to that rare Snagglespear south of Bloodhoof Village that I couldn’t beat on my own. After whoopin that elite down and got a bag and a white cape, but there was a chest there that gave me some green staff I couldn’t use. I quickly ran over to get my trusty WoW atlas and read that you got to train your weapon skills in major cities, so I started my 30-40ish min run (depending on the mobs that attacked us) from the bottom of Mulgore to Thunder Bluff so I could learn how to use this cool hunter weapon I found with like 2 spirit.

As I finally make my way to the path leading up to the elevator’s of Thunder Bluff, Scooby bites me and runs off! I immediately started freaking out, on the verge of tears asking around in general chat and my dad walks in (also plays a hunter) wondering what the big deal is and I said, “SCOOBY BIT ME AND RAN OFF!” and he’s like “wHAT??” (angry af, because he thought my real life dog bit me and bolted.).

Eventually, he told me ya gotta feed your pet ingame just like in real life and I was heartbroken, like a kid who’s goldfish just died because he didn’t know better. I couldn’t touch the game for the rest of the day after that, instead, my 9yh self spent the rest of the day crying for abusing my virtual doggo. :sob:

So that’s my most oldest/memorable moment from Vanilla and possibly the cringiest moment from my entire WoW career. Whats yours?

The Dreadsteed mount was an absolute blast to get.

The cringest was always the moron who killed Bigglesworth in Naxx40.

The first time seeing each zone and having no idea what to expect.

I miss the sense of server community that was established in older versions of the game. With time, the core values that made the game enjoyable began to dwindle from existence with implementation of systems like LFR, LFD, and Sharding.

I just remember my first time getting a level 40 mount. I spent the whole next few hours just running around on the mount playing Lord of the Rings music as I raced across azeroth on my new Nightsaber.

It was awesome. Then I got bored and went back to questing.

The day I got 4 earthfury pieces in one run because I horded my dkp.

I have a lot of moments that I am very fond of from Vanilla.
Being a noob and meleeing mobs as a warlock, thankfully I had a friend to tell me to stop that and use my spells.
Immolating rabbits in Dun Morogh just to see and listen to the death animation and sound.
Exploring the unknown world, coming across the mobs just outside Gnomer that where I couldnt see what level they where and not knowing what it was that I had found. Trying to walk in to Iron Forge for the first time and turning around before I actually made it in because my FPS dropped to 1 (also had no idea what it was till later).
Running around the world to get my pets as a warlock. Going to The Barrens as a level 20 alliance character after my friends told me “there is horde all over that zone”.
Recruiting a very nice higher rogue to help me get to my warlock quest outside Camp Tauraio at 2am. Turns out it was completely unnecessary to get a higher level player to guard me and/or do the quest at 2am…lol.
Getting my first mount, as a warlock it was free thank Blizzard cause I was totally broke when I reached 40.
Doing the epic warlock mount quest, which was very cool.
Being envious of all the cool things other Classes could do that I couldnt.
Seeing characters in cool looking purple raid gear and wanting to raid.
Doing the druid bear form quest.
Doing the poison cleansing quest.
Going in to my very first raid as a level 57 balance druid and typing /dance in front of the raid because according to the guild GM “that is all you are good for”.
Being a complete noob in raids not having any idea what I was suppose to be doing in the raid or what was going on.
I recall at one point in that first raid wiping on Garr and me trying to tank one of his adds in bear form, it went as well as you would expect.
Getting in to a real guild on my warlock with the absolute minimum fire resistance they required, but I got in mainly thanks to some friends that where officers.
Getting carried though ZG, AQ20, MC, BWL, and a couple of bosses in AQ40 and still not fully understanding what I was suppose to be doing or what was actually going on.
And the pre TBC patch that wreaked havoc on guilds and had people doing BGs for rank 12/13 gear and rank 14 weapons.

Well, my honest to goodness earliest WoW memory is dying to a red mob on the way to the next quest area. First it took me a second to realize I was dead, next it took me a bit to figure out how to get back to my body. It wasn’t immediately apparent to me that I had to actually find my corpse to res. I had always been an FPS and RTS player prior to WoW. I finally figured it out and made my way to town hoping nobody saw (of course they didn’t, but again I wasn’t sure).

I vendored everything until my 30s. Yes it took me that long to understand that you can auction things to other players. I was busy out killing Quilboar people and Centaurs and Harpies and other Tauren that were mad at me for some reason. No time for details!!

One of the most memorable things from my Vanilla leveling days is the time spent in Desolace by myself listening to Nevermore and killing the hell out of that zone. I think that is where I really learned to play my class (Warrior), at least that is how I remember it. I was probably still pretty bad, but I was starting to really get into it and take playing well seriously.

Where I got “hooked” on the game is when I met the right people for a Sunken Temple run. We never looked back, and it became a guild that went from there to Heroic Lich King years later. If all I accomplish is to be part of another guild like that, it will be amazing and worth the wait.

That first, looooong, danger-filled run with my young nelf and a couple equally young friends across the wetlands from Menethil Harbor to the tunnels leading to Loch Modan.

Even keeping to the road with an escort, our party had to watch out for the crocs and spiders along the way as they would aggro on us from a remarkable distance (we were 15-ish, they were 20-ish).

It seemed like it took forever (of course no mounts yet) and we were SOOOOO relieved to finally ditch the last spiders and get into the tunnel…

…then orc ambush. :sob:

…when we finally made it to Ironforge we sighed with relief… now THAT had been an adventure!

Probably the one time my druid helped salvage a 5 man silithus boss spawn that a group of players were going to wipe on.

That, or leveling to 24 before realizing I could click in my spellbook to craft recipes with leatherworking…

Scooby eventually became an NPC. With a festering determination to seek revenge on his former master. He slowly grew into a lvl 60 elite, and still roams the plains of Mulgore, searching…

My first character ever was a NE Druid. I remember trying to do the quest to get aquatic form. I was having a lot of trouble with it, since I was an idiot 12 year old. I ended up grouping up with NE Rogue who helped me find the chest at the bottom of the ocean. We added each other and quested together a bunch. I was sad when I went to summer camp for two weeks, and when I came back, he was level 60. I was still level 36 or so. I leveled very slow and soon ended up making a Hunter and maining that through Wrath.

Cleaning Fargodeep mines after several failed attemps

One of mine is also as a hunter getting my first pet.
Dwarf Hunter was my first character and I tamed one of the white bears before I decided to take the tram over to Elwynn to grab a brown bear because I learned I could name my pets and of I was going to have a bear pet it had to be a brown bear named Teddygraham.

Another one I find funny now is how Joanas guide is so accessible because I remember first learning about it and remembering I just needed to have it because I couldn’t get past the 20’s but couldn’t find a free version of it anywhere and now it comes in its own free addon for pservers lol.

Oldest memory of WOW at all (before my own account, before actually playing):
My older daughter logged into her Alliance priest in Ironforge. We spent the next 20 minutes at 1 frame per 5 seconds trying to get her outside so she could actually show me the gameplay.

Oldest memory of my own, on my account after logging in:
I rolled a male tauren warrior. I did the starting area quests and ran toward the first town. My daughter, on her female tauren shaman, came to meet me. She was running along jumping repeatedly (something she said all bored raiders do), and then came to a dead stop and spluttered something about not understanding why I’d rolled a male toon.

Sighing, I logged out, deleted him, and rerolled as this gal.

One of the most memorable was getting to the required rank for my PVP mount and then acquiring the mount.

It just so happened that I made rank the night that the Naxx patch was released which meant that I had to fight my way into Stormwind through the undead invasion to buy the mount after buying the riding skill out at Eastvale Logging camp.

Started playing on day 1 with a group of friends. While leveling every time we ran into an area of elites there had always been an instance at the end of the elite area, so we just assumed it was like that everywhere.

We got a 5 man group together and headed out to hillsbrad foothills to do whatever instance was behind all the elite dwarves in the east of the zone. It took us about an hour (and quite a few deaths) before we figured out that there was no instance there.
