I recently came back after stopping near the end of Mists of Pandaria.
Did I really lose all but a couple of my pets? All those taming challenges and such are now gone?

This is for FlopsyHunt in retail.
Not sure how to change the tag here now.
The stables now sorts them by category instead of by blocks.
I guess I will have to figure it out better then. I couldn’t find any way to show more than the 5 or so on the default screen.
Your active pets are bottom center, animal companion on the far right. All stored pets are on a list on the left like you would see mounts or vanity pets.
ITS good to see old players back D have fun ![]()
Ok , just for you, I went to the stable master in Dornagal to check it out.
WOW devs have revamped the stables with a ui that resembles the warband ui .
All of your pets are listed on the left on a scroll menu and you just click on the slider and mouse wheel to scroll up and down.
Looks like you drag them to your 5 active pets slots to the right, with the extra pet Bms can summon in the 6th slot far right.
I think the Net result is for the stables to hold significantly MORE pets!
I only have about 12 pets on that hunter, so I have no idea what the maximum capacity is, if there are any Green posters who know?
This does not completely make up for MM nerfs, but it’s darn cool and I am grateful.
stable indicates cap is 205 along the top of the window. which is considerably more than I can personally see any of my hunters having but. gotta catch em all?
I am enjoying it a bit. Things like this get annoying, but overall I like it. Adapting to profession, bag and other changes is more of an issue, but I am slowly climbing that too.
Welcome back Flopsy, things have definitely changed a lot since MOP lol. On the bright side you missed WoD. Azeroth awaits you!!
Staghelm’s a retail realm so I’m gonna assume this is the correct toon? Your profile shows only eight total pets, so I think it’s probably not what other people are saying, that you’re misreading the new stable interface. If you’ve been gone since MoP and you’ve lost a whole bunch of pets (only one I see that might have been a challenge tame is the Quilen – as far as I remember only certain Quilen and the porcupine spirit beasts were challenge tames in MoP), then you’re going to have to open a support ticket and see if they can trace it or figure it out, but end of MoP was more than 10 years ago, so I wouldn’t build up a lot of false hope.
Having a bunch of your pets disappear isn’t a “normal” occurrence by any means. I’ve never heard of it happening. I don’t recall what the stable size was in MoP – it was significantly smaller than it is now. How many pets do you think are missing?
I’ve got 112 on my Hunter, but I’m far from a “gotta catch em all” type. I’ve definitely seen people on the forums asking for even moar! stable slots. ![]()
I want to say the number was somewhere in between 25 and 55.
EDIT: in Vanilla, you had 3. Then late BC (or the launch of WotLK), it increased to 5. Stayed that way until… I wanna say Cata… when it got increased to somewhere between 25 and 55. Stayed that way until either SL or DF, when it got increased to a whopping 200 slots.
I’d probably have a pretty high # if I only had one hunter, but I like to make “themes” for hunters, which spreads pets out. my dark iron is only fire pets, for example, and my gnome is only “very large” pets bc I think it’s funny. my “misc” or overall favs tend to go to my dracthyr main
IIRC, MoP was 20 at launch, and it expanded (I think to 50) by the end.
Probably. I tend to remember the “beats,” not the exact number. I do remember that Vanilla - WotLK: 3 then 5. Then I remember that Cata - BFA: a comparatively large increase. Then the numbers got crazy in the SL/DF era.
WoD was better than the two disasters that followed.

It may be “user error” after all. I had 50 characters when I quit. I may not be on my true “main” and thus am not looking at the right character. Too many characters to load.
You are correct that the character linked above doesn’t have as many pets. I think I found one that had my main pets, but it still seems low at “only” 26.
Buddy has 5 pets total now and everyone’s gaslighting him into thinking he’s “doing the UI wrong”.
The cope and deceptiveness of payers trying to trick new players into subbing because we all know the game is hemorrahging subs is absolutely wild.
Hunter, wait 'til they tell you M+ is in a great spot, Crafting Orders are a swell addition to the game, the community is very welcoming and helpful, and upgrading your gear instead of getting gear drops is all really fun!
Truth is, losing all that hard work and the sentiment behind the pets you lost is the first disappointment in a laundry list you’ll come across.
