I’m looking to get back into Classic, not sure on the realm, but will be horde.
In your opinion what is the most needed class/role currently? Primarily focused on PVE content.

Probably shaman heals.
Resto Shaman is a good choice, every melee group needs one and as a healer you will have more opportunities.
If you want to go Dps I’d say warlock.
Shaman demand exceeds supply so you’ll always be wanted somewhere. In PvE you’ll probably be healing.
Survival hunter or arcane mage.
Herod - Horde - we need priests and/or shaman something fierce.
Resto shamans
Thanks for the replies. I mained Resto shaman for years.
Any recommendations on race/professions?
I don’t think profs really matter. I went herb/tailoring since once TBC hits (assuming it will) there is a bunch of bis BoP tailoring gear for all healers pretty much. And mooncloth sells pretty well in the meantime.
The only other pairing I thought of was skinning/LW if I wanted to play enhance, especially in TBC.
But yeah, most in demand classes are typically Resto Shamans and Holy Paladins Alliance side for the buffs. Resto druids as well since so few people play them.
I recently made a resto shaman and for leveling and end game dungeons I found it extremely highly sought after and easy to find groups but for raiding I felt unwanted because there are 9541235456221 other resto shaman looking for raid spots
Most needed class? Death Knights.
But seriously, you can go to ironforge.pro
and look at your intended server to see a breakdown of classes on the server. Granted, that is from raid logs, so might be a bit skewed, but it will give you a good idea.
That would be odd, seeing as optimally each horde raid would want 8 shamans.
I’m an officer in my guild, and we’re always recruiting shamans. Always. As is every other Horde guild on our server
My shaman is actually on your server. I’m speaking as someone for whom the raid times of most guilds doesn’t work with my work schedule (I have already changed my work schedule with great difficulty to allow myself to raid on this character, I can’t really accommodate two characters) so I have been relying on pugs on the weekends, so it may be different for someone who is actually looking for a raiding guild, but I feel like normally when I find MC pugs there are already a ton of other shaman and priest healers and I feel the attitude is like oh…another healer? well I guess we do need to fill up the raid.
All the choices for shaman are good to be honest. Orc is probably bis pvp, troll is probably bis pve, but tauren’s well rounded. There’s something to be said about a 2 second stun (warstomp) on a class than can deal 4k damage in 1.5s.
For professions I would recommend Engineeering / Mining or Engineering/Herbalism. If you farm herbs a lot and pick lotus you can fund your engineering with herbalism anyway.
I run a guild hosted BWL on Thursday most weeks that needs to pick up members to fill. Every single week we’re looking to add shamans. We’re lucky if we get 4, and 2 are Enhance.
I’ve been wanting to play shaman lately. This thread makes me think it’s a good idea to haha
Great to know! Due to my work, I generally can’t make the same raid at the same time every week, but it’s always great to have more options, if you’re in the server discord, I’ll shoot you a PM about it there when I get home from work.
I’m in the Windfury Pact discord, but our raid operates mostly off of our guild discord. I will warn you that now AQ is about dropped, we’ll likely hold that raid off until we’ve got AQ down to 1 night (3ish weeks max) since the core that carries that group is mostly alts of the main raid and burnout is real if you raid 4-5 days a week
Mage. Why? Youll enjoy playing the class most everyone else needs at some point or another.
Seeing all this shaman love melts my heart :’)
