I am going to be maining Hpal this expansion but have been thinking about how to level up as efficiently as possible. Is it go ret and have loot just specialized in holy? Or to just do quests as I normally would but just spec’d in holy.
Yes - you can choose your loot spec separate from your current spec but this mostly matters for dungeon and raid drops. You can choose your quest rewards regardless of spec. You can also queue for dungeons as holy (if you want to practice healing while leveling) are running around as ret but you will enter the dungeon with little to no mana so grab some mana drinks.
Do the main quest line for leveling on your choice of character that you want at max level and then you can either level via questing, grinding or dungeon spam on any alt.
If you know the specs, you might get there faster as Prot and Ret and then worry about gearing Holy at 80.
If you want to level as Holy then you might consider another class to level first then dungeon spam to 80 on your Paladin.
I will most likely quest as Bear and then bring my Paladin up via Dungeons as Prot/Holy.
You will absolutely be able to get to 80 as Holy but it might not be the fastest way, your mileage may vary. If you are leveling with a group or friend then it probably wont matter.
level as ret, questing as a healer is painfully slow.
I did this last expansion. Basically any quest fest you get is enough for ret to level with. When you do dungeons you can swap to holy and quite holy gear. So at 80 you will have some nice blues for healing that will get you going and your rest set will be put aside.
Basically don’t worry about rest gear. You will be able to find enough for both specs easily
level up as prot
Have they said how easy it is to swap hero class choice? Is it spec dependent or class?
Im assuming spec? If its spec i recommend leveling ret with holy gear selected and swapping to holy for dungeons once u get them unlocked.
I’d say just play in whatever spec you like to play in. I’ve generally leveled as Holy just because I’ve always been more comfortable with it. Ret will absolutely kill things faster, but I’ve always felt brittle as Ret, much more likely to die if I overpull or get extra mobs. With Holy I’m always confident that I can outlast almost anything if I get into trouble.
And then there’s the question: how much faster will you actually get to level cap, anyway? We’re probably talking tens of minutes as opposed to hours or days. If that’s really that important to you, go Ret, but I doubt it makes all that much difference.
The most efficient way to level is to delete your paladin and make a Death Knight. Paladins are lame.
