Simple question please don’t say “play what you want” I just simply want to know the most desired dps class.
Anyone who’s good. DPS is all basically the same assuming similar player skill.

Watch Dratnos’s tier guides for 8.2.5 M+ and raiding.
You can disagree with him, but he does a good job of breaking down why a spec is meta in his view.

Because it changes every patch.
In general, a consistent top dps I don’t want to have to switch to a different class each patch pretty much
You’re never really going to get an answer. All classes have strengths and weaknesses, especially when you’re talking about multiple different activities.
Also I want to mention that if you’re mediocre at the strongest dps in the game, you’ll get smoked by someone who is really good at the worst dps in the game.

Ranged DPS is being sought after for raids BUT honestly it is all about skill.
You could have the perfect class combinations but really bad players. That’s why it’s not a useful question to ask.
Rogue almost always has a spec in a competitive DPS spot.
This! And then add in the player’s personality, group cohesion, situational awareness, communication. It adds up, but I wanted to repeat this because I really like the succinct truth - to me - it speaks.

Rogue and mage, to me, are going to be your perennial solid choices. They have three dps specs, great utility, and are open to many of the existing races - they’re not such a niche class.

its definitely play what you want.
But, for a well rounded dps class good in mythic+, raids, and pvp I would go rogue.

Most desired is constantly in flux. Get good at something and then you’ll be desired.

“Play what you want” is only good advice if you’re not trying to be highly competitive.
If you want top tier progress in mythic+, or arenas, or mythic raiding, or whatever… do your research. This forum isn’t the best place for that research.
