Most beloved Shadowlands lore?

What is your favorite piece of shadowlands lore, and how do you hope it continues to manifest itself in future expansions?

Mine has to be 9.2.5 with Necromancy is Necromancy.

Sire Denathrius and Dreadlors plotline.

I expected more about the Drust

But probably, Blizzard just removed that content…

Denathrius was ok but I can’t say I “loved” it.

I enjoyed venthyr.

The rest was really not for me.

I just loved that the night fae story tied into trolls even a little. Don’t really care for the fairies themselves, but the Bwomsamdi and Voljin stuff made up for that

the part where it ended

I haven’t seen the other Covenant storylines but I’m kind of partial to Maldraxxus myself. Unfortunately all it did was reinforce my desire for Necromancers, or a complete rework of DK unholy to be a ranged caster.

I liked the concept of soulbinding but I wish Blizz went into more depth about it. It was strictly gameplay for us but we see characters have a pretty big emotional connection.

It was just one of those “Fine I’ll freaking think up the lore myself” things for me.

I’ve had to do that quite often myself.

Plague Devisor Marileth’s hugs, and that’s about it.

The drust quests in Ardenweald felt very unfinished. Sad

For sure it was not the way Arthas went out like a chump.

Marileth was certainly a cinnamon bun. A moldy cinnamon bun but one regardless.

My favourite part is that it’s all non canon.
It was all just a fever dream.

The Jailer is secretly an irobot. Made me almost pee myself laughing when I saw it.

I thought all of the covenants were interesting and had good purpose and stories behind them.

However the ending of it wasn’t what I expected and I felt it needed a more divine spiritual meaning behind the Shadowlands.

The side stories (Zone Stories) are always good or alright, it’s the main story, the main plot that kills some of it for me.

Here is to hoping DF is better. :slightly_smiling_face:

Personally, I thought most Shadowlands ‘lore’ was a festering, rotting garbage pile of a burning dumpster fire … However I will say I rather liked ‘Sire Denathrius’ the most.

As for the Dreadlords, it’d be wicked cool to see all the retcons and “Oh this was all just a part of the Jailors plan! It was all him!!” – retconned itself.

Could be easily done — just have the Dreadlords be like:

  • “We carefully planted the ‘knowledge’ to throw you all off! Worked with the Scarlet Crusade all the time … Then, we convinced the Jailor to fortify our deception … Muahahaha!”

Most lore-lovers and story-sailors loathed & HATED Shadowlands lore entirely though, and would preferably like to see it retconned completely. As you’ve seen with various common suggestions of –

  • It was a fever dream!
  • It was an aftershock from the Emerald Nightmare that lingered in our minds!
  • We were still stuck in the vision of N’Zoth / His madness put us into a coma after we defeated him!
  • Those mushrooms WERE poisonous!
  • etc.

So … Retconning what we can, and in the process restoring what story they butchered of which we had use to love (pre-Shadowlands retcon) through Dreadlord shenanigans — Feels like a best case scenario to me. :person_shrugging:

Speaking of enjoying the story & lore again …

 Keen for Dragonflight! :dracthyr_blob_dance_animated:

I liked:

  • Ben Howell’s/Lakeshire Questline
  • Venthyr Campaign. I’ll throw in Denathrius, Theotar, Kael’thas, and The Countess as some of the top tier characters in this expansion

Everything else was meh and I don’t even want to honor any of it with a memory.

I like the primus conspiracy theories.
I liked pelagos, his character was well done and fits the wow community as vocal golden boy.
Maldraxxus is an intense zone, I think there’s a lot of concepts there people who do rated pvp can learn from. Not so much arenas but rated bgs and such, very well done.

I think its odd how we go from an expansion with next to no if not any elemental presence to a first patch revolving around their primal states, I’m hoping there’s a connection which makes me enjoy the shadowlands.
