More work required on Gold-sink mounts

Let’s get something out of the way. The brutosaure was the craziest " gold-sink " that ever existed so far and that was only a vendor item, but it wasn’t just a gold-sink since it had a utility like none-other, so I don’t really count it as just a gold-sink even if that’s what it is. Same goes for the Pandaria Yak with a transmog on it.

Now, as for the rest of them… Let’s look at them. Also let me know which I forget if I do

  • In WoD, we got the Champion’s Treadblade for the Alliance with the vote of the best motorcycle after the Horde won. It’s not that big, it’s 100k, but it’s still in this. That was cool, but it was also part of a special event that was not meant for a Gold-sink.

  • In Legion, we got the Dalaran vendor selling a Spider with the 2,000,000g price tag. That was unique and honestly really good, up until Shadowlands Season 1 where they gave a cooler, armored version to any player doing PvP as a free reward without rating requirements (I don’t consider 1000 rating requirement… a rating requirement). Now, the time between them is fine, at some points let the other players have something cool that once existed, fine.

Then we got the Army of the Light Lightforged Warframe. One of the coolest gold-sink that existed to this day. A completely unique mechanical golem made of light with a special animation that then didn’t exist elsewhere. THAT is what we need.

  • In BFA, we got the Bruto sure. But then we got a Triceratops for 500k that’s just a white recolor of 20 other variants, then we got the 3 Frogs in Nazmir for 333k each that looks not only lame but where a cooler version WITH ARMOR was given freely to any player 10 minutes into Shadowlands with a 2 minutes-long secret, then we got the Birdies from reputation that all cost 90k each, yes Horde got cool ones with a completely ghost version but alliance straight up got 3 Gryphons with an armor recolor that’s it.

  • In Shadowlands we got nothing as Ion I guess wanted to calm down after the Bruto price that he found too excessive himself

  • In Dragonflight, we got the 1,200,000g Golden Scarab mount. That was fine, but a cooler, more detailed version was a Store mount a long time before that even came up as a new gold-sink.

  • In The War Within, we get a 3,100,000g Engineering Recolor. (Price can vary). What’s sad here is that it’s 1 of 3 Mechanical golem like that. One comes from a Mythic dungeon and the other from a weekly repeatable content that literally everyone does, and at a quite high % too (I think 5%)… So why paying that much at all for that ?

I get that it’s for the completionist and also that it’s for Blizzard to remove some gold from the economy, but if all gold-sink mounts were unique like the Lightforged Warframe or the Champion’s Treadblade, a bunch more people would buy it, or even buy tokens to buy it. I don’t see the point in me spending 500k for a mount other people are gonna look at and be like " Oh I’ve seen that mount in 20 different colors ".

To this day, the yellow Frog that cost 333k gold is rarer than the Mythic Jailer mount, and the Triceratops that’s 500k is rarer than the Spectral Tiger, just because no one will ever bother buying these unless they try to collect every mount in the entire game and these are their lasts.

Thank you

Would it be nice if blizz simply added more gold-sink mounts rather than shop mounts? Sure. They recently added a new unique model of a gryphon, wyvern and Hippogriff to the store. These really should have been in-game mounts. No idea why they felt the need to add them to the store when they already made bank with the new bruto.

you can literally buy battle net balance with gold though. so does it really matter if it’s on the storefront or on a vendor
