More Valuable: Tank or DPS?

Hi so I don’t have much experience endgame anymore after years of negligence and I am deciding between a tank or a DPS. My question is, when there is a player who can do both role very well, which is more wanted in Mythic+/Raids when played at a high level: DPS or Tank?

Each role is important and vital for a successful run (especially in higher end content)

So play whichever is more entertaining to you

Tank by a mile. Demand exceeds supply.

Dps are only there because of enrage mechanics. Remove these mechanics and you will see only tank/heal raid/dungeon comps with like 1 -3 dps as you go up the ladder.

Mythic+? Tank. Mythic raiding? Ranged DPS.

this is my opinion on them

Pally (great for new player)
Warrior (fun)
Demon hunter(great for new player)
Monk (fun but with a struggle)
Druid (can be boring dps felt weak)
Death knight (strong but learning them CAN be rough)

I cant give you a clear answer since I dont know what shadowlands will be like

healer

doesnt matter how good the tank or dps is if you dont have a healer to keep you alive

Here’s the answer no one is going to give you…

Tanks are technically the most “in demand” role for 5man content. This is for numerous reasons that I’ve outlined in numerous posts.

But they’re not the rarest. Not even close. As a (sometimes) raid leader and an ALL the time LFG Mythic+ leader (we always have to fill our 3rd DPS spot we run a 4man group) the rarest thing in World of Warcraft is…

95th+ percentile DPS.

Yep. You read that right. The rarest thing in the game is REALLY REALLY TALENTED DPS. Try to find an orange parsing Mage, Lock, Boomie, Spriest or Elemental shaman. I can find a tank for my Mythic+15 in like 4min or less. Finding a DPS that can break 400k DPS on big pulls and maintain over 150k on bosses and that has pots and knows the kill and interrupt order and how to exploit the affixes… my GOD that’s a needle in the haystack. It’s 1 in a million.

If you want the fastest queues or group invites you might as well just go tank. But if you think you have the potential to be one of the best DPS anywhere, take a caster or a hybrid and be freakin’ worshipped by every 3k RIO group that ever lived.

Both are valued, its probably better to start off as dps. Tank will likely get you into a lot of groups though.

As a returning player go rDPS (if you enjoy it), especially if you’re coming back after a break.

WoW instanced content is a whole different animal these days, and you don’t want to jump into the PuG world now as a noob tank. Trust me.

rDPS is my ideal DPS.

More common: DPS.
More valuable: players who are @#$@!#$.

If you want to get into pug groups easily, tank is definitely the answer.

But honestly as a tank player let me tell you that a good DPS is worth their weight in gold. And I don’t mean just a DPS that does lots of damage, but one that actually interrupts, stuns/CCs, uses their utility correctly and at the right times, and whom I can count on to handle mechanics without having to explain them every time. I’ll move mountains to keep that guy in my group.

Listen to us, OP.

Play a Hybrid class of all three. I find the enjoyment of adapting to whatever is needed.

Only in M+, gl finding a guild as a tank for raiding. Those are usually sourced internally.

Good dps can be highly sought after in both.

not looking at this crap. t’s tank

With m+ no longer being as spammy I wouldint Recommend tank
