More Than One House, Please!

Hello!

TL;DR: Limiting players to one house per faction per account is a major disappointment regarding the housing system. I’d like to see that addressed more directly by Blizzard.

I am excited for player housing! This has been my most-wanted feature for years, and it’s looking really good so far! The amount of TLC that has been put into this design has been incredible to see, and I can’t wait to play around with it. The customization we’ve seen so far is miles ahead of most other MMOs, and polishing this feature will help WoW outshine so many other similar games.

However, I have a major concern. I’m sure this has been posted before, but I just wanted to add my own voice as well: limiting players to one house per faction per account is a major disappointment regarding the housing system.

If the point of this system is to lean in big on roleplay, then this is really antithetical to that. Blizzard has done a fantastic job opening up possibilities for character expression over the last few expansions. However, each character should get to live in their own house. My night elf’s house is different from my dark iron’s house is different from my blood elf’s house. Many people are disappointed that they can’t build for their characters.

One thing I’ve appreciated from Blizzard in regards to player housing is their deliberate intent to communicate with the players. Quietly dropping this news in the fine print of random streamer videos seriously undermines the genuine good will that has been built-up during this effort.

So, while myself and my friends are tremendously excited for player housing, and the work so far is looking incredibly promising, this news was a bit of a cold shower. I’d like to see Blizzard either expand the number of houses to alleviate the limitation (maybe 3, 4, or 5 houses per faction?), or directly address the community as to why this limitation was put in-place and discuss potential options/plans for expanding house count in the future.

Thanks!

I thought they said everyone gets two houses (One per faction) though I’m not 100% certain if it would be account-based or character-based. Who knows, I’m not testing them and I haven’t really done a deep-dive on it.

Blizzard retweeted this post ( https:// www. mmo-champion. com/content/13328-Player-Housing-Press-Event-Gameplay-and-Interviews ), which explicitly says, “Players will only have one house per faction.”

Read this like 5 times and maybe you can catch his point.

And to think you would have multiple houses is being unrealistic.

Most MMORPGs with housing that I know of are limited to one of each housing plot for the account.

Yes. One Alliance and one Horde, of which you can go to either one after that, regardless of faction.

Why is it unrealistic?

We can have 65 characters per WoW license and 8 total WoW licenses under one Bnet account. That’s why.

We technically can have two, one for guild plots and one for public housing if they’re separate and not a toggle.

No… you can have one Horde and one Alliance. That’s it. And it has nothing to do with neighborhood type.

We’re lucky we’re getting player housing and luckier still that it looks as good as it does. Don’t be greedy.

I am fine with one for each faction at first then expanding it later.

Nothing worse than over promising and under delivering like they did with garrisons.
blizz con announcement they said we could put the garrison in any zone, when it went live it was only in frostfire for Horde and Shadowmoon for Alliance. Also it wasn’t going to only be Orc and human aesthetics, but once it launched it was exactly that.

Get the system working first before expanding it.

You pointed it out, which keeps me from writing what you did.

Thanks! :+1:

I had suggested simply expanding the number to 3-5 houses per faction per account, because I wouldn’t expect that most players probably would just want to focus on a few alts, especially given how in-depth the customization options.

But, that still doesn’t answer the question of why is that unrealistic? Like… I had people swear to me, up and down, for years that housing could never be done in WoW because the technical limitations were too much (there was no basis for this, they just guessed and swore like they’d read the source code themselves). And yet, here it is.

So, I ask. What’s the limitation from keeping us from getting one house per character? Why can’t they do 65 houses per account?

Part of my post isn’t just “hey, I want more houses”, but also “announcing this major limitation in the small text of a few streamer reviews is not good communication”. I’d like Blizzard to explain why that limitation is in place. They explained that we’re only starting with one neighborhood per faction because of time constraints on the design. So, why can’t they explain this?

Because houses take up server space and considering how many people play this game.

It’s basic common sense. Considering even characters are limited.

I would imagine it could be a technical issue or w/e if you take into account the millions of players World of Warcraft has. Allowing each player three to five houses seems like it could add up real fast.

Do you want housing done right or done sloppy and be horrible? I’m all for Blizzard taking their time and getting it right before offering more houses for players.

Edit: Fixed some typo’s.

While I would love to see multiple houses, I am just excited we get one at all.

Would that reason not factor into this as well? If they cant do more than one hood because of time, why would they be able to do many houses?

I think its probably going to put a huge strain on the servers. And, if they can wind up doing multiple houses at all, I personally think the extra homes should be extravagantly priced, like in the hundreds of millions of gold.

Don’t go too crazy, I’m not that rich. I only have like 6 million gold spread amongst a few of my many characters. :grinning:

We will theoretically be getting more neighborhoods as time goes on. We start out with two for now. Similar to SWTOR.

Neighborhoods and the way they want the system designed for social interaction.

It was literally in the news articles Blizzard posted, along with the video interviews they’ve done. Nothing was buried and it’s not a major limitation. It’s in line with most other MMORPG housing.

So, 6-10 houses (total) per account…
Q: how many characters does your B.Net account have that you would want to give houses to?

Follow-up – why would 6-10 houses per account be enough? It’s been pointed out that a single B.Net account can have 8 licenses, and each license can have 65 characters. It seems if you’re going to ask for more homes, you’d at least shoot for something higher than 6-10.
